How many parents dread back to school shopping?!

When my 17 year old son and my 15 year old daughter were, my 7 year old's age it was fun, fast, and easy! Now since they are teens they have their own idea of fashion, which I totally understand. They like to shop at American Eagle, Aeropostal, and Ambercrombie and Fitch. I also wear clothes from there. But I always end up spending way too much money in the long run. I usually shop for my 7 year olds clothes at The Children's Place, and that stores clothes are "reasonable". Well anyway how many parents just let their children go shopping by themselfs, or with friends. I mean my teens, not my 7 year old! :) I trust them enough to buy the right appropriate things, and if they don't I can always return them. But do you do that with your children?

Thanks:)

  1. I think they are old enough. My dad let me go shopping with friends at 15. He would drop us off and we had to meet at a certain time and place. I hate taking my 13 year old son shopping. I can't believe how picky he is. My 10 year old daughter is so much easier!

  2. I would definitely let my kids do that, but I would have them model the clothes they bought and give them guidelines for buying before they go. This teaches them responsibility and with your guidance, can show them what is acceptable clothing to wear and how to manage money wisely by finding things on sale and whatnot.

I enjoy finding sales for actually school items, though, but I definitely wouldn't take my kids unless letting them pick out the more important things like a backpack. i think they would get too bored.

  3. My friend does that she gives them 300 a piece and they have to get shoes/underwear/clothes that way they can't say I don't like what you got me.

Dillard's just ran 40 percent off things that were already marked 50 percent off.I couldn't get jeans because my son is 14 and 6'2 and 30 inch waist.

so his ralph lauren polo shirts were cheap...I tend to watch for sales like that.Normally in sept hollister /abercrombie things go on sale..they do run sales though you jsut have to watch.Hollister will put girls shirts down to 9.99.Yes,you get chose form whats on sale but its better than paying 50.00 for one shirt.

rainbow flip flops only go on sale at the beach shops around here day after thanksgiving...so you just have to learn when to go.That way they get more for the money.

Just at different times...not all at once.

Good luck I have three heading out this yr.Should be fun!

  4. Wal mart ,Kmart, Target

  5. ok, im not a parent, but this is what my mom lets me do-

i'll take friends to the mall (with my mom) and she'll either take out money from the atm and give it to me or give me her atm, and keep the reciets (so she knows how many times i get money from them).  then she'll check out the stuff that i bought (i keep those reciets too because i might not like something when school starts). and sees how much i spent. last year i think it was someting like 600.

but as long as your kids have the money to buy stuff, they'll be happy. and if they buy to much, make them return it.

EDIT: do not listen to them. seriously, think about how you would feel if all your friends had wardrobes full of abercrombie (or for moms -chanel or even, less expensive ann taylor) and you were wearing walmart clothing.

dont do that to your kids. it DOES matter.

self esteem is very much affected by how accepted you are/were in highschool.

  6. American Eagle, Aeropostal, Ambercrombie AND the children's Place???

Lady you have a lot of money to spend on expensive clothes. What exactly is your problem?
