How many parts in an inch?

Hi

I know 1 centimetre has 10 mm in it but what about an inch, how is that broken down.

I am currently selling laptop screens and cannot get it right. On the box it say 15.4" but when I measure screen and count the lines on measuring tape it is more like 15.8 or 15.9, Is an inch broken up into 10 smaller parts or 16 smaller parts

Is inches not diveded up into 16 smaller parts so 0.4 would be 4/16ths (quarter) of an inch?

An inch like any other measurement can be divided into any number of bits you want quarters tenths hundreds thousands millions etc. etc.

However 15.4"  is 15 and 4 tenths of an inch.

Were you aware it is customary to measure screens diagonally?
