How many people criticizing Sarah Palin for not "controlling" her daughter ever had a 17-year-old daughter?

Obama's mother was 17 when she got pregnant with him and had him when she was 18. I wonder what he thinks of her. Do you think she was out of control. There are ways to do it. Look at my nick name. I believe her daughter went to public schools where they teach s*x without teaching morals and religion was removed from the s*x-ed curriculum before it ever started.

I don't attribute my kid's successes with being controlled. I attribute it to good moral upbringing and keeping them away from public schools.  My daughter is 21 now and finishing university. She never had a puff of a cigarette. She never had s*x or even a date till she was 18. She was chaperoned on group outings and went to church every Sunday. She went to a school where the teachers have guns and knives and the kids are allowed to carry. The school had prayer every morning and the kids got the occasional smack when they needed it. No kid ever had a drink, No kid ever skipped a class. No kid ever took drugs. No kid ever had s*x or got pregnant. Her brother is 17 and in the same school. He plays sports all 4 seasons and works in his own business cleaning the church and doing yard work and snow removal. By the way, when my daughter was defiant, I threatened to send her to public school. That threat was enough to make her behave. She saw how many girls were getting in trouble and didn't want to be like them. She was lucky, she had very little bad influences in her life yet she saw how bad behavior hurt other kids. This solution is not for everyone, but it sure worked for us.

Is not about being able to control her daughter or not. Its about the fact that they are bragging about the fact that she is a mother of 6 and governor yet her own family has issues like teenage pregnancy. You cant run based on saying you are such a good parent because you have 5 kids and a job because obviously she did not have enough time to teach her daughter about not getting pregnant at such a young age. I am glad they have decided to keep the baby but she shouldn't of announced her vp role the way it was announced if they knew something like this would come out.

Yes I have.  My girls are 20 and 21 now.  We are close and I talked to them in their early teens about birth control and s.t.d.s  I even suggested they use "protection" before even thinking about having s*x.

Neither got pregnant and both are in college now.

It's not the controlling, it's the inability to teach a teenager what she needs to know. It's also the hypocrisy of the whole situation. The VP candidate who is such a big-mouth about abstinence-only s*x education has a teenage daughter who is pregnant.

Now I will agree with you, there's no real way to control your daughter, but parents are supposed to teach their children about everything they will encounter in the world.

I started having s*x when I was 16! However, my parents sat me down and told me "We don't want you to have s*x, but if you ever do, we want you to be safe. Use a condom." Six years later, and countless orgasms later, I haven't gotten pregnant since all thanks to that one talk my parents had with me.

Point is, Sarah Palin failed to tell her daughter everything she needed to know about s*x and therefore failed as a mother. Way to go Sarah!

I don't fault Sarah Palin for what her daughter has done. I am a Dem and that is just silly. Children should be off limits as far as I'm concerned. However, her serious lack of experience is what really concerns me. Especially since McCain is pretty old and his health is of concern to me. She could be the next President of the US with just a BS in Journalism. Shocking!!  and really scary!!

PS Courtney does have a valid point though. How can Sarah Palin convince world leaders if she cannot convince her family!

Palin has been on the record stating that

"Will you support funding for abstinence-until-marriage education instead of for explicit s*x-education programs, school-based clinics, and the distribution of contraceptives in schools?

Palin: Yes, the explicit s*x-ed programs will not find my support."

Palin is a deeply religious woman who I cannot imagine who would think it was moral to have pre-marital s*x and a child out of wedlock--something that the religious right agrees with.

It is just showing that her values do not align with reality. As you have stated, that a 17-year old cannot be "controlled", then we need to educate them about the responsibilities of sexual activity, not just preach to them that abstinence is the only way.  Palin's lack of responsibility to educate her daughter on the realities of sexual behavior is a failure. I do believe that Palin is quietly pushing Bristol into marriage over this.

Palin's strong stance on abstinence only program is haunting her and openly displaying how the religious right like to regulate morality since they see pre-marital s*x as immoral.
