The actual figure is unknown. Estimated numbers (this includes known fatality's and other impaired related incidents) is quite high. This is one of many sites that might answer your question.

The numbers above are true, its pretty staggering to think about when you consider we lost "only" 3000 on Sept. 11th.  We actually lose about 3000 people a month, every month in traffic accidents of all sorts.  Be careful out there.
