Depends on your criteria.

317 alcohol poisoning deaths per year.  More if you include liver failure from chronic alcoholics(11,958).  You could throw in drunk driving deaths and other stupidity related deaths but the stats are not very reliable.

Smoking related deaths are around 440,000 per year.  Those are harder to pin down.  The cancers are fairly straight forward but a lot of people who are pre-destined to die of heart disease also smoke.
