  1. According to the CSIRO, 14 death were directly attributable to the Sydney Funnel Web Spider between 1927 (when statistics begin) and 1980 (when the antivenene was introduced).

Whilst the Sydney funnelweb is the most toxic spider in the world, there are 40 other species of funnel web spiders in Australia but there seems to be little information available on either the toxicity or death rate from these spiders.

  2. According to the Australian Museum, there have been a total of thirteen recorded deaths from funnel web spider bites.

EDIT:  The website clearly states that no deaths have occurred since 1981, the year that an antivenom was introduced, not that all of those deaths occurred after 1981.  Allow me to quote it for you:

"...no deaths have been recorded since the introduction of an antivenom in 1981..."

  3. 13 deaths (all before the introduction of antivenom in 1981), seven in children.

From The Medical Journal of Australia.

Male venom more toxic, severe effects, sometimes death (without antivenom); no deaths recorded from bite of females.
