...what to do at a traffic light when it is out? Where I live electricity is out all over the place, and people just drive right through the intersection...I guess they expect everyone to watch out for them.

Does this happen where you live?

  1. It certainly happens in my city (Chicago).  In the USA, I think we simply expect signage or traffic lights at all intersections and are momentarily confused when we don't see it.  Drivers that don't completely stop might also be worried about being hit from behind.

But this behavior depends on where in the world you live.  Many big cities in the world get along without traffic lights, signs, or cops at intersections.  As an example, check out this short video clip below from Vietnam (specifically an intersection in Hanoi at rush hour).  These commuters are used to driving small vehicles through ungoverned intersections, and they make it look easy!

  2. People are rude, uncaring fools......you treat the intersection like a 4 way stop...person to the right has right of way.

    GOOD LUCK...stay safe

  3. All the time

    SC

  4. It should be treated the same as a 4-way stop sign.  But I agree that many people don't know that.  This can cause problems for sure.

  5. I think people have become too dependant on law enforced saftey protocals.  With so many laws designed to help protect us, we forget that we are the last best hope for safety.  We grow complacent and stop using our common sense.  We just assume that "someone" has it under control and so we don't bother to pay attention to what we are doing or what is going on around us.

  6. Its happen before and yes people drive real crazy. they think everybody is alert just for them. i personally have to be real careful since some people just dont see me all the time. but other than that becareful when your driving with your kid on back. be on the look out, everyday is not the same.

  7. Yes...."lights out" means one of two things.....treat it as a four way stop.....or a lot of fun under the sheets...lol

Okay.....those who blast through a dead traffic light are eligible for a ticket...... By all means stop and proceed with caution.  No need for a cement truck to broad-side you going 60.... Be careful.

Oh....at the end of the rainbow.....the closest traffic light is 50 miles away!
