How many people fit on Gondolas?

Minus the guy paddling it? I probably sound stupid but I've never been to Italy. Also, if they only hold a few, is there a way to make gondolas sail together? Some friends and I are planning a trip to Europe after graduation and we wanted to go together on a gondola ride.

  1. well i just arrive from venice they charge me 50 euros and we we were 5 people on the gondola i hope u have fun!

  2. My family went to Italy (all 12 of us).  We decided to splurge on a gondola ride.  We rented two gondolas that traveled together, with 6 of us per gondola.  We spent about $200 euro, but that was four years ago.  We did not go into the Grand Canal (which would have been scary anyway).  We did not pay extra for the singing, and we went during the day when it is cheaper.  It took about a half hour, and I will say that it was a once in a lifetime experience, even if our gondoliers carried on a conversation the whole time about getting their car fixed (didn't know that some of us knew Italian) and just pointed out sites at random every once in a while.    If you really want to save money and have almost the same experience, take a tragetto.  These are public transportation gondolas that go across the canals from designated stops.  They only cost about a $1 euro, take about five minutes, but you can do it more than once, and you get to travel with the local people.

  3. In Venice the Gondola is very expensive and is primarily used for romantic situation that being said I did see families get on them but at around 120-150 euro per person that can get expensive real fast, they hold around 8 small people maybe 10. They also only go for 1 hr. Grand Canal Tours if you pay more you get more time and he will take you into parts you may not have otherwise seen but mostly you will be walking in Venice or taking a Veparto(sp) a water taxi/Bus these are the cheap and fastest way around Venice have a blast Ciao!!!

  4. I think not more then 6 people, but it depends by the Gondolier. You can find many info (also about the prices) on this web site:

  5. Gondolas carry one to six passengers. The price is for the gondola, not per passenger. You can share the gondola to drive the per person price down. It costs more in the evening than during the day - about a 100 euro for an evening ride, although they may ask more. Yes, you can hire more than one gondola for a larger group and they will travel together one after the other. Do make sure that you understand the price and how long the ride will be before you start. It's expensive, but it's generally a good experience for a special occassion.

This is an excellent site for Venice information that confirms most of the above: http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/arti...
