How many people have converted all their bulbs to the flourescent type? And why are the LED light fixtures priced at more than $100 when they are the outrageously cheap to produce. Does anyone prefer the incandescent to flourescent?

  1. We have about half flourescent because we are waiting for the others to burn out so we can replace them.  I prefer flourescent.

  2. LED's are a good and safe source, but extremly expensive.Flourescents arent good at all and use mercury vapor,so they are bio-hazardous.Halogen light bulbs are great(they are usually based in an argon gas) but produce great amounts of heat,So incandescents are alright with me.To think that The worlds problems will be settled by changing light bulbs is idiotic and preposterous,it may be economical but not problem solving in energy as ,it only takes them to build another city somewhere and any saved energy will be used there creating the same problem.

  3. We have converted all interior lights to fluorescent ~7 years ago when these bulbs were expensive. I think the price of LED bulbs will go down as the fluorescent bulbs have, just new technology where the majority of buyers don't demand lower prices on LED bulbs. We don't use fluorescent for outdoor lighting. At the time, for outdoor use as bug lights or floodlights, fluorescent just did not cut it. Not bright enough and did not last as long as advertised.

  4. they last longer and

    they are brite and.

    i would by them.

plus i boil my water in

    stead of buying plastic

    bottles. you still drive

a car well gas is expensive.

    laney

  5. I've been trying to convince my parents to switch, but we haven't yet

  6. Did it about 5 years ago.

  7. I have converted and prefer the fluorescent bulbs.  The incandescent bulbs give off a yellow cast that I don't find appealing.  I haven't really looked into the LED's other than purchasing them for my Christmas lights.

  8. nope i will never do it because they make dirty electricity in the air plus they give so bad light.

theres tons of other thing we can do that save the environment much more.

  9. We're mostly flourescent and halogen, although we still have about 3 or 4 tungsten bulbs in use.

    d**n things won't burn out!

  10. I switched to florescent years ago...and most of them are still going.  Wow, did not realize I was an extremist for changing a light bulb as Jake states.  Better watch out for us light bulb changing environmental maniacs...we might take over the world!!!

  11. a recently passed law makes it illegal to sell incandesent bulbs in the U.S. after 2012 so you've only got 4 years to stock up on them while their still 25 to 30 cents each.

  12. I've done it and haven't had to change a bulb in over a year which is fabulous since the old ones were blowing every few weeks.  I was disappointed with an LED night light though, it died within a month!

  13. It's absurd not to.  On several occasions I've been given fluorescent bulbs by groups advertising them.  They're cheaper, give off better light, and good for our environment that IS IN A CRISIS SITUATION.  Then again, it's only science.  And uncritical observation.  And common sense telling us that.

I also have fixtures with room for four lightbulbs, and I only put one or sometimes two bulbs in them.  I get plenty of light, since fluorescent bulbs are brighter.

Also, plants can photosynthesize off fluorescent light if I'm not mistaken (any one want to confirm that?)  My plant seems pretty happy, so that's an additional benefit.

  14. Most of mine are fluorescent bulbs, I'd love to go to LED's, they would be so cheap to run but as you said, they cost a lot, I've noticed more and more cars are converting tail lights and brake lights to LED's, i think they will come down in price eventually.

  15. I will never convert. I have bought cases of incadescent bulbs. I will buy enough cases of incadescent bulbs to last me the remainder of my life. I hate fluorescent bulbs and LEDS  don't produce enough light. The environmentalists have once again forced their lifestyle and agenda upon the rest of us. I live in the country and we care for the environment but the extremeists are out of control.

  16. I changed about 2 years ago.... and have seen a price savings in my ele bill also. They cost a little more but they have paid for themselves for sure.

  17. We use a combination of  CFC and LED, with a couple old style 35 watt 48 inch fluorescents.

We changed a couple years ago but I think it will be another year before we save their cost.

We have been waiting for cost reductions before adding more LEDs.

I greatly admire LED for brake lites. They are much faster to emit light, gives the car behind a lot more stopping time.

Unfortunately people will soon get into the habit of driving closer.

  18. I did years ago.  Saved me a bunch of money and effort.
