Question:

How many people know and understand the Fair Tax?

There's lots of misunderstanding about the Fair Tax proposals (though in general I would say there is less general understanding of the current bloated tax structure), and I'm curious as to who knows about the Fair Tax and what their thoughts are.

If not familiar but interested:

  1. I'm pretty clear on it.

  2. The idea is that it would be fair as it would eliminate people ability to hide monies from taxation by having a retail tax that would increase government monies that would not hurt the poor by not taxing the bare essentials such as food. One of the downsides is that municipal governments already have retail taxes. Are we willing to have 25% sales taxes?

  3. Sure, the same tax rate for everyone, right?  I don't support it.

  4. The FairTax concept is an idea that would eliminate the Federal income tax (which, let's admit it, is applied unfairly in many aspects) and instead replace it with a Federal sales tax.

Instead of taxing people X amount for making Y dollars, it would tax people X amount on each dollar spent.

Not only would this hit the rich harder (since they have and use the most disposable income), this would also hit the people with illegal incomes (such as drug dealers) and unreported incomes (such as those working "under the table).

  5. I've heard Boortz talk about it often enough to know something about it and what I've heard I've liked. I don't see it happening anytime soon though.
