How many people know "alot" is not a word?

This drives me crazy - so I just wanted to take a survey. How many of you know that it is not a word? And before you say it is a word, it's not! "Allot" is, but that means something totally different!

Nother is not a word either.

I have known that it is not really a word for a while now, but I still use it often because many other people do, and they don't know any other way of expressing the word "many"

My 8th grade teacher taught us that 30 years ago...apparently it was a pet peeve of his so he wanted to make sure we knew it.  What I don't get is "cannot"...why is it connected?
