  1. One of my good friends homeschools her two sons for that very reason.  Her son is highly allergic and the school district refused to do any remediation of the problem.

  2. It is a very common problem, in Canada as well as the USA.  Mold is everywhere, and always has been.  School districts here in Canada are more aware of the mold issue in recent years, and many districts are taking measures to change the situation and to improve older buildings.  It is a tough issue, and can affect anyone at any time.  I had to tear out a wall in my own house last spring because of mold.  It wasn't making anyone sick, but we could smell it.

  3. Not only is the mold in most schools but also lead paint is a problem. I'm from Oregon and their is or was a middle school called 'Whitaker' it was closed down because the mold the problem the school had. the whole situation was covered by the local new stations. i can't quite remember if anyone got sick from the exposure but, i do know its a problem in many PPS-Portland Public Schools of Oregon.

  4. Most homes/commercial buildings have mold in them.  Moisture = mold.  People have lived thousands of years with mold, not all of it is bad for you.

  5. There is a mold problem. I have allergies and am very allergic to mold. I hate that before I went to school I would have to make my medication. It's ridiculous. I'm in college now and luckily don't have that problem anymore!

  6. Due to the flooding of New Orleans it is just one of a few reasons a lot of the public schools are still closed. They have to just about tear down the old building and rebuild some of them. Mold is every where but in most cases its kept under control by simply through cleaning which the schools really don't get. Yes they are picked up and swept and mopped the toilets and sinks are cleaned. But how often are air filters truly changed if there are any at all? What about the walls in the restrooms how often are they scrubbed; the classrooms? How about the carpets in the office where drinks have been spilled and left to dry on there own? It every where but it sounds like the district your in may have a major problem if people are getting sick. It can be classified as sick building syndrome. That's where people keep getting sick because of the building condition. One thing I have to look for in my job is signs of water damage which can indicate a mold problem.

Well now that you home school would you ever go back? Not me!

  7. Good for you guys most people in where you live are aware of these problems. In other countries, people look the other way.

  8. molds and funguses have attacked several of our students with an outbreak of rashes
