I LIVED ON 23 SHIPS FOR 17 YRS AS A CASINO MANAGER, 6 MONTHS ON, TAKE A VACATION, THEN BACK FOR 6 MONTHS, SOME PEOPLE DON'T THINK OF THIS AS "LIVING" ON THE SHIP IF YOU ARE WORKING BUT IT WAS MY HOME, I NEVER HAD A LAND BASE. LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT, TRAVELED THE WHOLE WORLD, MET MANY EXTRAORDINARY PEOPLE AND LEARNT SO MUCH ABOUT LIFE AND OTHER CULTURES. DEPENDING ON THE SIZE OF THE SHIP YOU CAN HAVE FROM 25-400 CREW LIVING THERE, ON THE WORLD CRUISE WE ALSO HAD A FEW PASSENGERS WHO LIVED ON THE SHIP PERMANENTLY.

Usually it is not for ever, but some do for a year at a time. There is a ship called "The World" in which you buy your condo for a year at a time and they travel around the world. It costs over 1 million dollars to do this though. I have also seen people that will stay on a particular ship for a whole season. This is more common then you can imagine.

As of today there is only 1 cruise ship setup where people can live on it year round. It is called THE WORLD. They design each suite to each persons taste. It also requires that you invest 5 million dollars. There are plans to build more of these ships. The World has 350 suites.
