How many people of faith do you think might cling to the idea of a perfect being simply because they've been taught that man is so hopelessly flawed?

I was just reading through responses to an earlier question I posted and this thought occurred to me. People of judeo-christian faiths are taught that man is inherently sinful and flawed and that their only salvation lies in their faith in an allegedly perfect entity. Could this innate feeling of inadequacy cause some to cling so desperately to something they view as flawless?

  1. all of them... if you think about it, there's no way to define perfection. im only actually familiar with christianity. if you really sat and thought about it, perfection is simply defined AS god. God IS perfection.

In other words, there is no state of perfection that God lives up to... God simply IS perfection and everything he wants is perfect. if he wanted to kill children *cough*egyptians*cough*moses*cough*, he's still perfect because he IS perfection.

If there was a quality called perfection that he had to live up to, that would make this idea of perfection above God, but nothing is above God. God, therefore, must define perfection.... and what if God was hitler-esque? no matter what u say, he would still be perfection.

    twisted aint it?

  2. Humans are flawed whether you believe in religion or not.

There is nothing wrong with aspiring to be a better person, religious or not.  Everyone has support and hope rooted in something.

Why is it some people think atheists dont?  Whether its family or potential for their futures, most of us cling to the possibility of becoming better.  Who cares if its thru religion or anything else?

  3. simply by knowing I will die is enough to know that I am flawed.

  4. Allah has stated many times throughout his revelations that most of mankind will not believe and only few or a handfull will. So adding up everybody in the present with all of the deceased ancestors of the past, I estimate it  to be 85% Disbelievers and  15% Humble. Only Allah truly knows though.

  5. I don't have to be taught I am hopelessly flawed , I know it through and through ..Nothing good dwells in me ~

I am in love with Jesus because He first loved me and He gave His life as a ransom for many , He didn't have too ~

Human emotions come and go ~ Faith abides and is steady

    ((Your very welcome love ))

  6. Could this innate feeling of inadequacy cause some to cling so desperately to something they view as flawless? No

god lives in my heart and I know he exist.

We do not believe just because some one said so.

God has reached out to us.

Your lack of Faith in God has no bearing on why we believe it is just your opinion and proves nothing.

  7. Yes, and I will CONTINUE to cling to my Heavenly Father!!

  8. not many...you have a narrow minded view...

  9. That I cannot guess, but if GOD is not perfect, what kind of GOD is that?  Have you read Descartes' Meditation?  And try St. Thomas Aquinas writings.

  10. How many atheists do you think hound people of faith so relentlessly about their beliefs because they wish someone would prove them wrong?  If there is a God (and I believe there is), he would have to be flawless to create and maintain as he does.
