Question:

How many people on Y!A have seen the History Channel special: Doomsday 2012?

I'm gonna post this on both Astronomy & Space Science and Mythology & Folklore, in part to see if there is a difference in response.

I just finally got to see this bane of my life.

And frankly I was disappointed on so many levels that a full critique will take too long.

For now I just want to know who saw it and what they thought of it...

  1. I have seen bits and pieces of it posted on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ash_5a_37... .

I am somewhat surprised that the History Channel would air it, mostly because of the panic it could stir.  Curiously, but maybe fitting, only the most benevolent people pay much attention to Mayan prophecy.  Many "Well to do" people shutter to think that those meek Maya Indians could poses such advance knowledge of things and things to come.  From what I have seen, the History Channel tells it pretty much as I have discovered it in my research of the Mayan Calendar and Maya prophecy.  In that respect, the film includes an accurate representation of the Mayan Calendar which dominate Maya beliefs:  If this was their goal, they accomplished it.

Notes: The History Channel did fail to mention that in the last pole shift, tropical animals, like the woolly mammoth, were frozen in their tracks, their stomachs still full of berries, suggesting a rather quick pole shift.  Also, the physics behind a pole shift happening while we cross the galaxy's equatorial plane could have been made clearer.

Here is a summary of my research into the Mayan Calendars and their predictions for the time leading to Dec. 21, 2012.

    --------------------------

The following cycles are most relevant to what may occur in 2012. There is the 25,625 year "Galactic Day" and the 5,125 year "Long Count"(Great Cycle). Both of these are set to END and RESTART on the Winter Solstice of 2012 (11:00 UST Dec. 21, 2012):

Let's start with the "Galactic Day". As we travel around the Milky Way galaxy, it is my understanding that we do not remain at a constant distance nor at the same orientation in relation to the black hole at its center;  a black hole the Maya refer to as the supreme creator, "HUNAB KU". Instead, we move closer and further from this black hole.  As we move in closer, we simultaneously become aligned  with the Milky Way's equator or "The Tree of Life" as the Maya call it.  Upon doing so, we may become exposed to "HUNAB KU's" opposing magnetic forces which would cause our Sun to eject intense solar flares and Earth to experience a magnetic pole reversal (Pole Shift).  In the years that we have been furthest away from ,"HUNAB KU", we have been dense low vibrating energy and have been experiencing our dark spiritual years: These years have been part of the "Galactic Night".  As we move closer, we become higher vibrating energy and spiritually enlightened beings: These years pertain to the "Galactic Day". We are currently in transition from Night to Day. The complete cycle takes 25,625 years; approximately the same as what modern science has calculated and named "The Precession Of The Equinox Cycle".

The "Long Count" evenly divides the "Galactic Day" into five equal parts (25,625 years / 5 = 5,125 years). It is my understanding that this cycle also coincides with a natural rhythmic beat that is derived from the black hole at the center of the galaxy in the form of an energy pulse. This energy pulse presumably has multiple effects on us and our surroundings. It not only helps us to become enlightened beings for twenty years, but can reek havoc on Earth by creating larger solar flares which can bring drought, famine, earthquakes, volcanic activity, and tsunamis. Twenty years prior to this event, in a period the Maya refer to as "The Time of No-Time",  mild energy spurts, from "HUNAB KU",  create a shift in consciousness; from left-brain thinking to right-brain thinking (from logical to intuitive). This shift can be experienced all at once or gradually at first moving exponentially as we approach the end of the cycle.

There is one more Mayan Calendar I could share with you called "The Nine Underworlds". It is one of the more recently rediscovered calendars and may be the most important one, in so far as the 2012 prophecies are concerned.  It is a calendar that has recorded the state of consciousness from the beginning of time (The Big Bang) to Dec. 21, 2012.  At which time, we will have supposedly consciously evolved to completeness to become co-creators with "HUNAB-KU":  It maps out "creation" if you will.   Humans will be exposed to a cosmic energy that will facilitate enlightenment. In this state of higher consciousness, we will recognize that all matter, plant, animal, mineral are bound as one. This realization will mark the end of wars.

  2. It depends on the day you view the History Channel.  Thursdays seem to be their "weird" history day.  All sorts of what I call "fringe" shows are on that day.  It is an attempt to have a wide viewing audience.  It keeps the money rolling in.  All my opinion.  I have to remember it is a part of history, people did (do?) believe in these prophesies.  It gave them a reason for living a just and good life and to keep their priorities in order.  It was all about survival.

There, that's what I thought of it.

  3. i have.

doom and gloom and I have GOT to finish all of my knit and crochet projects before then! lol.

ok, I saw it and i will only believe it when it happens.

there has been end -of- the- world prophecies for as long as there has been a world. Even jesus christ jumped on the end of the world bandwagon.

I think it is a lot of BS, but maybe not.

    the mayans aren't stupid people.

    nether was Nostradamus.

So, that brings me to this: I think it may happen, but we will never know for sure til it happens.

  4. If the Mayas were any good at anything they'd still exist. Which they don't. So their calendar means absolutely nothing to me. There will be NO doomsday God said no one knows when the time comes. Only the Father knows. So 12,12-12 is nothing, period. Get over it!

And  History and Nat Geo channels are BS all they care about is scaring the behivies out of everyone. DOOMSDAY lmao

  5. Hello Stardust,

I just gave you a "best answer" (on magnetic pole shifting) and got looking through your questions and found this.

I didn't see the special, but have read on the subject. It's sort of like the Y2K thing, but appears to be a much bigger deal in many people's heads.

Similar to the pole shift, which hasn't caused mass extinctions, the astronomical event of Dec 2012 has happened before without accompanying disaster. It's sort of like a cosmic new-year. So I'm not worried in any "cosmic destruction from space" type way.

But like New Years Eve, I am worried about the danger of a bunch of people getting out of control. Some churches are preaching that this is the end, and many people are taking it to heart. So, if ten percent of the population start preparing for the end (by quitting their jobs, building fortresses, stockpiling food, developing elaborate paranoid fantasies, or living like it's their last month on Earth) and another fifteen percent are sort of convinced that something big is coming, that will make it very difficult for the other 75% of us to lead normal lives. I do think it's possible that things are going to get a little or a lot crazy around the end of 2012. That's sociology and economics, not astronomy.

Of course if everyone was as scientifically informed as you then we wouldn't have such a problem. Not long ago I was at an outdoor event. I was asked to put some lawn chairs out for our group so we could watch the event. Where I put them someone complained that they were in the sun and not in the shade. I said, "yes, but by the time the concert starts the shade will be over our area." When this turned out to be the case two people in the group were truly impressed, like I had pulled off some sort of miracle.

So, I feel for you, trying to explain precession to people who don't even understand how our sun moves in our sky.

    Good luck.

  6. The Maya still exist and live very much in fear of this day. Other Maya believe it will be a day of cosmic unity in which all things will aline and bring a spiritual awakening. Its up to you to believe what you think.

  7. I feel this way jesus said no one but the father knows when our last day is so live every day for god so that you will be ready when the day comes now on saying that if you believe in 12-12-12 then you must not trust the word of god due to how can anyone predict the end when jesus said no one can. Ive seen their calander and its like everything else you read into it what you want and its not specific enough to debate i go throw life not worring about it due to even if i knew we couldnt change it SO PEOPLE ENJOY LIFE dont p**s it away worring about something you cant change
