It seems like it's the norm these days to give children middle names and I was just wondering who hasn't given their kids middle names and why didn't you.

  1. Everyone in our families has middle or Christian names, it's a tradition. I loved choosing 2 names for them - so I thought it was fun!

  2. this doesn't totally answer your question.  but I wasn't given a middle name.  Because my mother combined my sisters middle names and made it into my first name she felt like i didn't need a middle name because my first name was long enough.

  3. My mom and my dad didn't give me a middle name.

My mom and my stepdad's children do not have middle names either, and nor do my dad and my stepmother's children.

So we're Caden, Kali, Brando, Aria, and Chloe.

My mom hated her middle name (Anita) so she didn't give us middle names. She also found it was irrelevant - she never had any reason to use it. And my dad doesn't have a middle name (as far as I know, the whole generation of that side of the family doesn't have middle names). So basically it spared us having names we didn't like. After all - everyone can easily list of a number of people who hate their middle names. Why put your kid through that?

But we definitely surprise people by not having middle names. I've had a lot of people accuse me of lying about not having a middle name to avoid telling them, and it's always fun to pull out I.D. and prove that I'm telling the truth. Whenever middle names or initials are requested on forms, we simply leave the space blank. There's never a problem with that.

  4. Some people give two middle names so that the child has a first and middle of their own, and then a second middle to honor a family member. At least that's what my parents did with me.

Aubrey Emerson was the names they liked, and Lux was after my grandfather.

    -Aubrey Emerson Lux

  5. I see nothing wrong with it but I hate when they give their kids two middle names.... I'm like "What's the purpose'?

  6. My mom did not give my brother a middle name.  Only an initial.  She just thought it would be different and she herself does not have a middle name.

  7. I don't know anybody who doesn't have a middle name. I know a couple people with two middle names though. Don't understand why somebody would need two.

  8. Neither did I.

My son is named Malcolm and the next one will be either Mariah or Matias.

  9. I gave my daughter two.

One was a family name, the other just flowed well. :)
