How many people think it is ok for a boss to leave one employee alone in an office?

I work at an eye doctors/optical shop. People have stolen expensive frames, and there is money in a draw at the front desk. The Dr. seems to think it is ok to leave attractive petite females alone in the office with the door wide open. Yes, we're trying to help patients if they want to pick up their glasses, but it's supposedly by appt. only. I still answer the phones and do my work. I am very uncomfortable being by myself with the door wide open, because any wacko could walk in there. Watch some Court TV or America's Most Wanted. There is another office across the hall, but their not always open as late as we are, and not always on the same day. Does anyone else agree that this is not right, and this boss does not care about the safety of her employees. I could see if at least one other person was there. I'm not the only who gets left alone.

  1. yeah why why not..

  2. This is not uncommon at all.  If you are uncomfortable with your working conditions then it is your choice to find different employment.  Your job is not the only one where someone could get hurt.   Schools are full of crazy teenagers shooting people.   The twin towers had security but who would have ever thought that someone would fly an airplane into them.  Banks have security and get robbed everyday.  You have no control over what a person will or will not do.  Security officers do not make you any more safe if someone is carrying a gun.  Convenience stores have cameras and many of them have weapons under the counter but it has not stopped people from robbing them either.  The world is not a safe place no matter where you work.   I understand your fears but if you do not feel comfortable or safe at your job then I think you should find a place where you do.

    Just my opinion

  3. Maybe your boss doesn't see it like you do. Talk to her about your feelings or see if you can work hours when there are other people there. If you don't like it and she refuses to see your point of view you may need to get another job.
