breast feed a child much longer than about nine months? I think breastfeeding is great and all, but once your kid starts getting teeth and scooting around it makes me REALLY uncomfortable to see women letting them nurse...... I feel like it's so taboo. And the worst are the mom's that will defend it to the end, even though their kids are starting to talk.....

  1. many cultures around the world breastfeed until much older than 1.

I personally have no problem with it up to about 2--but it is a totally personal decision for mommy and child.

  2. Well, you should try feeding her or him a bottle, and if her or him doesn't like it then I guess you should stick to breast feeding, and slowly have them grow out of it if you think it's right. But it's YOUR choice since your the parent.

  3. i think its creepy exspecailly when its till there like 8 i have heard of stories like that.i plan on doing it till 1 yrs old but i will be using a breastpump the whole time.

  4. i think up to a year is fine but once they can talk and ask to be breastfed its creepy

  5. O.k....seriously you must be a child to speak of breastfeeding the way you do!  I am one of those that will defend it to the end, honey!  I breastfed my daughter until she was 9 months old and only stopped then because of some health issues I was having....I would have loved to continue!  Breastfeeding is best if you feel comfortable with doing it...it felt natural to me.  If breastfeeding isn't for you, then your child will sense that you are uncomfortable and not take to it as well.  The question of when to stop is completely up to the mother....not to rude people that find it offensive!

  6. If it feels normal do it! Only you can decide if its wrong or right!

  7. Breast milk is the best nutrition for a child  so I promote it completely. I fed my three children.

However, I believe that when a child is old enough to eat and hold a cup on his own or up to one yr of age that is the time to wiene.

some with disagree and say that getting the breast milk is still good for the child but I have not heard of any proof that the child is actually going to benefit from it once he starts eating real food.

    Hope that helps

  8. i feel that its ok for about 9-10 months depends on the child but at least its not as bad as a 9 year old breast feading! its true.. it was on a talk show .. i have also heard that a 15 year old was breast feeding! gross!

  9. I don't have a problem with it.

  10. I think it's okay up to a point- at which I'm not exactly clear.  As a teacher, however, I have seen many students sucking their thumbs in a high school classroom.  So there does need to be a weaning period...

  11. moms will defend it to the end because breastmilk contains antibodies that help your baby stay healthy, and it's perfect nutrition well into childhood. I plan to breastfeed my sons/daughters until they are at least a year old. it also helps to strengthen the bond between mother and child. there's nothing wrong with it. the biggest reasons mothers stop breastfeeding their babies are teething and going back to work... if a stay at home mom wants to breastfeed their child into toddlerhood, more power to them. it's healthy and natural.

  12. I nurse my 11 month old and plan on doing it until he no longer wants it.

So, would you suggest that at 9 months, I wean my children and switch them to formula?  Why would I give my child artificial milk when I can make exactly what they need (and for free!)?

I guess I'm the worst, because I will defend it until the end.  There is no topping what mother nature makes.  Period.

And ya know what?  I really don't care that you are really uncomfortable seeing a mother feed her infant the way he should be fed.  That's your own issues that you need to get over.  In the mean time, I'll be feeding my child the best food possible.  Feel free to feed your child artificial milk made in a laboratory.

To Maire:  Benefits of Extended Breastfeeding-  http://www.kellymom.com/bf/bfextended/eb...

Also, feel free to google "Benefits of Extended Breastfeeding" and read the numerous other websites that have research from documented medical studies about how extended breastfeeding is extremely beneficial to baby.

....now you can't claim that you have yet to see any sort of information that says extended breastfeeding is good.  So rid that nonsensical thought from your mind.

  13. my boss breastfed her son until he was 6 1/2 years old. no lie.

and the reason why she quit is because they were in the bank & she was holding him & he pulled on her shirt and said "MAMA IM HUNGRY FEED ME RIGHT NOW!!"

i seriously think that is beyond weird and on the line of being pedifile-ish.

  14. That is not the proper thing to do!I met one mother that was still nursing her daughter and 2 yrs old.
