  1. He has the right if he buys them.  But I wouldn't worry too much, I doubt they will be going anywhere.

  2. Its not likely to happen but he certainly has the right to do it.  If he didn't have that right there would still be teams in Winnipeg and Quebec City.

  3. He has every right to buy the Sabres if the club is for sale.  If he offers, say, $300 million, Golisano can either accept or reject the offer.  It's Business 101.  As to the relocation issue...most likely, this will mean writing a checque to the Maple Leafs for territorial issues (given the matter in which he pursued Pittsburgh, and then Nashville, one senses that he just wants to know how much to make it out for).

As to fair...ask the people in Winnipeg about fair.

Clearly, he sees the southern Ontario area as a goldmine that is currently untapped.

  4. Just you. Everybody has a right to buy almost anything that's put on sale. Isn't that what capitalism is all about? Isn't that what your founding fathers fought for?

Joe, this is what we were talking about earlier in Awesome Bill's question.

  5. i think it's funny that me and this guy have both our responses right after each other.

well good on making yourself much more clearer bb by saying it makes no sense. but only to you and only to people who don't know/about this guy.

jim balsille wants to purchase an nhl club, and have free right under whatever rulings the nhl does business to be able to move the franchise to another location, whether it be hamilton or into the southern ontario untapped market or into the golden horseshoe area that doesn't include having the buffalo sabres franchise remain in buffalo. so really homes' tombstone comment is really on the money and quite funny.

the nhl (well lets just say with the don that is bettman) will not allow this guy to come in and buy a franchise like the buffalo sabres, the pens, or even the preds/thrashers and have him move it into a market of his choosing period. they don't even want him to think of moving a team. it's all really c**p because this guy has lots of money and is a smart business man who can purchase a team and make it work instead of sinking it like so many others have done before him. he could help out the nhl by still being interested in their league and in their teams that are facing problems, but really bettman would like him better if jim balsille bought a team and then moved them to a place like las freakin vegas and stupid kansas city. you've got to be kidding me. they're trying to handcuff this guy even before he has his hands on a team, which is good for the nhl, but really bad for business. the way they have conducted business in the past, there's nothing to make jim balsille think that he can't purchase and own an nhl team and have the right to move it at his will. but the thing is that although they recognise his money, they don't like him right now and see him as a threat to their plans for future expansion/relocation, instead of seeing him as a guy in shining armor who's going to come and rescue an nhl team and move the team into a market where there's actually a chance of the franchise thriving and making money.

basically this guy is never going to have an nhl team in hamilton unless he gets the consent of the teams in the area (who would probably want something in it for themselves), and also by the don leading bettman nhl itself.

gah. so don't worry galisano won't sell to balsille now, but maybe he'll sell it in the future to someone who has no interest in moving the franchise, and also we'll all see how bad some of these franchises do before we see the next calling of jim balsille. i don't think he's scared of the nhl one bit, but he's not a stupid guy who's going to wait for stupid people to take their head out of the clouds and offer him a team.

wow. i take it you're not a bills fan freckles? i watch the buffalo bills, and i'm from toronto, but i could care less about their franchise (because ny has so many teams already and i like watching the giants and jets better). so basically i'm saying that buffalo should keep their teams in buffalo, whether they win or lose.

  6. It's a free market capitalist system. He can do what he wants. Not that I want it to happen, but it is what it is just like the Sonics.

  7. That will be on 'ol Jimmy's tombstone......

    Jim Balsillie

    Born February 3, 1961

    Died trying to buy teams

    since 2006

  8. Well, you have to admire his tenacity if nothing else.   At his current pace, he'll be out of American teams to conquer by 2011.

  9. Anyone has the right to do it.I dont see it happening, but he can try all he wants

  10. That's why he will never own a team.

Trust me when I say the Sabres aren't going anywhere.

  11. LMAO Lae, the don...

Anyway, I agree with her. He can wave a checkbook but I don't think they're going anywhere. I also agree that they may be sold to a new owner who won't facilitate a move, Hamilton will never get them. They may as well make Tornot 90210, there's no practicality in it.

And whoever is assuming the city will lose the team solely because they're convinced its a destitute ghost town obviously hasn't been here, the city can certainly continue to support the team. As for the Bills, they can sing their song the whole way over the d**n Peace Bridge for all I care.
