I'm pregnant and I will buy it if it's extremely useful, but I have heard one or two people say they are a waste of money as well.

Thanks :)

  1. I had one and I was not impressed. It was hard to open it  up and when you did the smell was awful from all the dirty diapers. I would spend my money on a bottle warmer or a changing table or stock up on diapers.

  2. I like the Diaper champ- especially if you have pets.  The Diaper champ use regular trash bags and it makes it impossible for any dog or cat to get into.  My parents like it so much that they got one from a resale place to put in their house.  And when my daughter isn't there they use it for smelly garbage.

  3. i didn't buy one all i brought was a small trash can with a flip lid and the trash bags that block odor and have a nice smell to them. my daughter is 10 1/2 months old and her room has never smelled bad. and to me it works great.

  4. I actually got the graco  touch free...it's great...it uses regular kitchen catcher garbage bags, and keeps in the odor...I highly recommend it however it's $70

  5. I did until the darn thing never,  ever worked!  I had to pull all of them out and put them in another bag.  It didn't take long for me to throw it across the street!!!!  I just take a grocery bag and set it outside the back door when I get a dirty diaper.. I just throw it in there and be done with it!  When the bag gets half full I throw it in the garbage can and start over with another one...  Good luck!!

    Things you should have are:

    (no special order)

    Diapers

    Wipes

    Formula  and or breast pump

    Lotion

    Balmex

    Shampoo

    Nail clippers

nose syringe (infant size)  hospital gives them out

    Burp cloths

    onesises

    sleepers

    blankets

    hats

    pacifier (per choice)

hand mittens (socks work just as fine)

    bottles

    gas drops

    tylenoyl

teething medicine (Hyland teething tablets work great)

    crib

    swing

car seat (buy a head support for it)

    High chair (not now)

and that's about it.. You don't even need a changing table unless you really want one..

  6. The Diaper Champ is better than the Genie....my best friend had both and liked the Champ way better.  It didn't cost as much since you didn't have to buy refills and it was easier to use

  7. I don't have one and don't really see a need for it.  Poo diapers need to have the poo disposed of in the toilet for sanitary purposes.  Unless of course it is too runny and you can't - then we just throw it in the walmart bag and into the trash can.  I mean after 2-3 months old they only go poo 1 or 2 times a day.  And the pee diapers just get thrown into the kitchen bag so they get taken out once a day.

Waste of money and seems to be just a gimmick.

  8. I got mine as a present and I love it.Its particularly good for those night time changes!

  9. i have one. i think its a waste of money. i just tie poopy diapers up in a diaper sack. you can get like 100 of them for a dollar at walmart. in my opinion, i'd save your money.

  10. waste of money definitely

  11. I found it really handy, up til my child was a 12mths old. but its really inexpensive for the convenience it provides, so go ahead and get it. with newborns and young infants, the refills can last about a month, so its not bad. :) I want to buy the Genie 2, cuz it wasn't around when my son was born, and it seems better made. I plan on using it again with my second child. By the time your child is eating just solids and cow's milk, no matter what you do, the diapers will smell really bad... so what I did is I switched from the genie to a step garbage can, and use diaper disposal bags for the dirty ones, to keep the smell away. you'll still have to empty it before its even half-full otherwise the stink can start to escape into the rest of the house.

  12. I got one from my friend who never used it and I ended up using it for only a month.  We got a large trash container with a lid and it works much better.

  13. my mom bought me one but i never used it!  I found it easier just to throw the diaper in the trash, but if you live in apartment or somewhere that you have to keep your garbage for a couple days i guess it would get smelly lol

  14. i thougt it was more of a pain then anything and ended up buy a medium trashcan that has the thing you step on so it kept the smells contained (i got it from wal-mart it was $15 i think). my son is six months and i just ended up dropping the genie off at a thrift store in the box because i decided i hated it the night we opened it

  15. I love it! not only does it stop the smell, but you can put a weeks load of diapers in there, and then I put it in my trash can. I would deff. recommand buy one, they really are not expensive, about 40 dollars for the diaper genie, and 5 dollars for the refills, which lasts me abotu 2-3 weeks. Its a realy time saver, I have two of them lol!! I have it right next to my changing table, i just put a diaper in it after every changing.

EDIT: You need to figure out where you can keep the diapers if you are not going to buy one, and you should have something close by you. Also the diaper genie are small and are a space saver, they can hold a lot of diapers, diapers will stink really bad after a day or so. I dont understand why people thumbs down me but seriously its an extra 5 maybe 10 dollars a month. I bought 4 refills, and my little girl is 2 months old and I am on my 3rd one.

  16. waste of money. we just use the regular trash. if its a really smelly diaper, I put it in a plastic shopping bag and tie it up, throw it out in the trash outside.

buy extra diapers with the money! lol

  17. I had the first diaper genie it sucked. No other way to put it. It was difficult to use and a waste. But my boss uses the new diaper genie and she swears by it and the reviews are really good.

  18. Waste of money.  I got one as a gift.  They stop the smell, but it's just as easy to put them in the regular trash and take the bathroom/kitchen trash outside at night.  If you do get a diaper genie, don't let them sit for a week, ecspecially poopy diapers.  (I tried that, and I had knats all over it).  Just get some plastic bags made for diapers/doogy poo and tie them up in there, and then dispose of them in the regual garbage.  Always dump the p**p in the toilet to cut down on smell.

  19. I don't have it and wouldn't get it. So many of my friends have complained about it. We have a diaper pail that uses regular 13gal kitchen size bags. Has a handle. You put the diaper in it and flip the handle to the other side to get the diaper to go in. Someone gave it to us and we love it!!

  20. Ours was a waste of money. Way easier just to throw the diapers in the garbage. If you want one look for it at a garage sale.

  21. I had one and used it for about 2 months .. it became a pain in the butt

  22. I've had 3 children and I've managed just fine without one. These things are way overpriced and then you have to keep buying the replacement liners to go in them.

Just put the nappy in a nappy sack and take it out to the bin. I wouldn't want a whole load of dirty nappies sitting around inside the house anyway no matter how hygienic it's supposed to be.

I would buy a bumbo (baby seat) instead. You won't need it at first but it will become invaluable a few months down the line.

  23. I put one on the registry and was told not to get it b/c it can waste money.  The refil bags that you need to buy to use it cost around $6 and only hold around 30 diapers... my baby went through about 12 a day so $6 dollars almost every two days would have been too much.  I was told to get a diaper champ which uses regular trash bags.  I ended up getting one and am sooooo glad I did.  It works great and you can't smell the diapers.  GL

  24. I heard not such great reviews of the Diaper Genie.  Specifically that it is kind of hard to use, and that the refills are really expensive. We bought the Diaper Dekor Plus instead, and absolutely love it.  We have been using it for 2 1/2 years now, and it rarely smells.  When it does, a quick spray-down with some lysol will fix it.  The refills are not too expensive, and last a long time.  I understand that it can be used as a regular trash can when no longer needed as a diaper pail, but with another baby on the way, it will be years before we try out that feature!

  25. I used it, 10 years ago, with my first, and I did like it, but it was also inconvenient, changing it... I haven't used it for my 2nd and 3rd, nor will I for my 4th (and last). It's not *that* worth it, in my opinion, and the money would be better spent on necessities, not a slight luxury. :)

  26. It's not that useful........I got one with my first child and used it a little but never used one even once with my second.....save your money..it's not really worth it..:)

  27. it was nice to have all the stinky diapers in one place, easy to dispose of
