  1. 200   million

  2. The construction of Brasília began in 1956 and the city was inaugurated in Abril 21th, 1960 by the President Juscelino Kubitschek. His project was drawn by Lúcio Costa, and the main buildings by the architect Oscar Niemeyer. Designed in a futuristic style, it has large gardens and wide avenues. Located on a plateau, it has a dry temperate climate, pleasant throughout the year.

Designed for a population of only 500.000 habitants, Brasília saw its population increase much more than the expected. The corresponding part to the original plan became the "Pilot Plane", while successive sattelite cities were being created along the years to accomodate the extra population. The total population of Brasília (including the sattelite cities) is of about 2 million inhabitants, being the Federal District composed by 19 administrative regions. It was registered, in 1987, as a Historical and Cultural Patrimony of the Humanity. Though, it is much more than a historical patrimony or an architectural mark. It is a living and unique city, a city loved by the majority of its inhabitants, a city that's really well worth knowing!
