Tryting to find a wedding cake! The baker says a 3 tier cake with the bottom tir being 10" will feed 75 people. That means the bottom tier would be the size of a pie pan. Would that really feed 75 people? Are the slices going to be tiny?

Your help is greatly appreciated!!!!

  1. I just married and the slices traditionally are tiny - about one inch wide and two inced deep.  Really they are - I got three tiers - but just to be safe - if someone cut the slices to big - I got a grooms man cake as well.  Both Cakes served about 85 people.  73 pieces from the wedding cake and the rest from the grooms cake.

Be careful when selecting flavors - try to balance and you can get your three tiers all different along with the grooms cake, make a surprise variety for your guest - my guest thought it wonderful and it went...and don't forget to freeze your top tier for a year wedding after dining treat!  Supposed to be good luck.

  2. Sometimes wedding cakes are of different height than a standard cake, but generally, a 10" cake serves about 20 people, so the other two tiers would serve probably 15 and then 10. But the baker would know best for the cake that you are choosing.

  3. My mother was a professional cake decorator for years.  Her rule of thumb was 15-20 per cake mix.  So.  10" takes 1.5, the 8" takes 1, and the 6" would take .75 cake mixes.  The math works out to 60ish.  I wish mom was still around to ask her.
