Random question I know, but I'm planning an ice cream social for a few hundred college girls. I need to know about how many servings are in a 3 gallon tub of ice cream so I'll be sure not to buy too much, especially because it'll be hot outside!

Any help is appreciated = )

  1. Buy a portion scoop and do the math.  There are 128 fluid ounces in one gallon.

Go to a restaurant suppy store and buy an ice cream scooper.  They come in different numbers, depending on the size.  A number 8 is 4 fluid ounces.  A number 6 is 5.3 fluid ounces.  Just look up "Wholesale Grocery" in your local yellow pages.  These stores are open to the general public and you do not have to be a member to shop there.

  2. A 3 gallon tub will have about 50 to 60 servings.

However, this depends upon scoop size and scoops per serving.

If you're serving to girls, then a 3 gallon tub will serve 4... maybe 5 with a lot of grumbling.  lol (j/k)

  3. alot

  4. about 80-100

  5. 1 gallon equal 128oz or 20 6oz servings with 8oz for melting or 30 4oz(small cone) servings.

So 3 gallons would be 60-90 servings or say an average of 75 serves.  I would recommend getting enough for 5oz each in the 3 gallon tubs and then get some back up in half gallons.  That way if you have leftovers you will be able to fit it in your freezer.

I recommend getting a few scoops with liquid in the handles.  They cost about $6 each. Try WAL-Mart.

The wiper blade type is not so good if you are doing a lot of ice cream.  Get small buckets of water to dip the scoops in and shake of extra water between scoops. Contact a local paper supply company for sprinkles and cones and canned hot fudge.  That is where I got my supplies when I had an ice cream store.

  6. Assuming yopu will be using an ice cream scoop and not a spoon, a scooper usually will scoop 3-5 ounces of ice cream.  with that being said, divid that number into the ounces identified on the ice cream contianer.  decide how many scoops each persone will receive and stick to that number.  it will be easier for you to limit the sccops per person by serving it in cone rather than bowls.  also, if you have coolers to help keep the ice cream frozen it would be better for u to use dry ice instead of tradinional ice.  place the dry ioce at the bootom of the cooler and do not tough it with your bare hands.  this will keep it frozen and you party will be a blast.
