How many people will play in the 2008 WSOP Main Event?

They are estimating 12,000 max and are set up to have 4 "day ones" on July 3,4,5,6 to accomodate that many players. Then July 7 is an off day, then there are 2 "day twos" on July 8,9.

This kind of schedule makes it tough for people with jobs who do not live near Vegas to play in the event. If you survive your first day then you have to wait around several days for the next day you play. And you may be there almost a week and still not finish in the money.

A lot less than the previous two years. It was down significantly from 2006 to 2007. And now that all those poser mortgage brokers are eating tuna fish for dinner there is a lot less disposable income. People cant come up with rent much less the 10K buyin. Plus there are lots of competitors out there. Even the pros dont see the luster that used to be there. Poker is plummeting in popularity.

i would say the number stays about the same as last year, there has been a definite plateau in the popularity of the game, especially with the uigea
