  1. It really depends on they budget and what they can afford.


  2. The figure I have often seen used is 1.5 to 4% of gross income. Keep in mind though that some of the larger, multi-state banks probably spend much more than this. As the marketing director of a credit union, several years I put together a budget comparison report. The 1.5 to 4% was what I came across in several industry sources for community banks. Keep in mind it's hard to compare apples to apples. You have your small, local, two-branch banks who barely advertise. Then, you have the large banks with multiple business lines.
