For example, @ 3.50 a gallon I bought a more efficient car. At $5 a gallon I would ride a bus more and at $10 a gallon I'd buy an electric car.

  1. probably about 4, but i have already made very minor changes in the way i drive.

  2. at $4 a gallon i would use a bike more often. (which is easy since im 15) but i had to drive to work id carpool a lot more often, use the bus, etc.

  3. I live 5 minutes away from work and my wife lives 12-15 minutes away from work. So, even if it went to $10.00/gallon we'd survive. We wouldn't be very happy about it, of course. But we'd keep driving. I feel sorry for commuters though. I used to be one and you can start throwing away hundreds of dollars/month in gas purchases - and that's with a vehicle that gets reasonable fuel economy too.

  4. I guess I would have to say at about $3 a gallon I sold my SUV for a Civic, mainly cause I live about 25 miles from school and 35 miles from work. Also there is no bus near my house and I can't afford an electric car. If I lived closer to work/school I would have kept the SUV and carpooled when I could.  If gas continues to escalate and reaches $6 a gallon, I would most definitely find an apartment in between work and school where there is a bus system and alternate between the bus and carpooling since I have a coworker as a roommate. I'm trying to convince myself to just start riding a bike everywhere. It might come to that soon!

  5. i'll start making moonshine in my tub and running that. its pretty much the e 85 but e85 has 15% gas so ppl dont drink it. get a green house and grow corn all year long

  6. When it was time to replace my convertible due to old age a few months ago, I downsized to an economy car that averages 30mpg.  With gas hitting $3.20/gallon in the past couple weeks, I've cut way back on any driving that's not necessary.  I love to drive and used to go for little drives just for fun.  That's no more.  I wouldn't hesitate to make a trip to Wal-Mart or wherever needed for single items.  Now I stock up a list of items I really need before going to a store (along with other errands), unless it's something I depserately need at that moment, like toilet paper or soap, you know, the important stuff.  My car really has become a transportation appliance.  I remember when gas was just $.96/gallon here back in 1995.  What the h**l is going on with gas prices this is getting obnoxious!!!
