Renters will always demand you make 3x your rent.

Which is BS in my opinion. They shouldn't care how much you make so long as you can show you'll make it, but it's understandable how Americans waste money, they're looking to protect themselves.

Usually they'll ask for a deposit, try to give them a deposit that'll convince them you're serious.

But in my case, I made sometimes only $300 above my rent, and I've never missed a bill.

You shouldn't pay more than of a third of your income for rent, regardless of self employment.
