  1. Hi,

    I live in CA too, congrats to you.  This is my first baby (I am 6 months pregnant), and the below is all from my HR department:  

    The state pays 55% a week up to a certain amount.  

    There are three stages to the leave:

    1)  Time needed before pregnancy (with Dr's note, I believe)

    BIRTH DATE

    2)  Recovery time from pregnancy (6 weeks for regular, 8 weeks for C-section) - Non taxed

    3)  6 weeks "Bonding Time" - Taxable

    I think it may take a few weeks for each segment to kick in, so make sure to have extra cash on hand to float you.  I also can use some of my Paid Time Off (Vacation and Sick Time) to keep my health insurance payments and 401k contributions up to date during my leave .  (This is company policy and each company is different)

    Do some research or meet with your HR department early so you are ready with all the forms when the time comes.  I already have my packet (which was THICK!)
