How many percent that there is internet access in saudi arabia?

Hi! Im flying to saudi arabia to work as a nurse under ministry of health and my destination is dammam, im planning to bring a laptop computer but i want to have any idea what kind of internet access was available in saudi arabia. is there a wifi in most of there housing?

there is no difference between WIFI and Wireless , maybe you mean WiMax , even WiMax there is  company provide this technology in Riyadh

Firstly, welcome to Saudi Arabia, and I hope you have a pleasant stay.

The internet access in Saudi are 2 types: 1) DSL 2)Dial-up. The DSL, of course, is faster and more reliable but it depends on the area of Dammam you live in and whether the underground cable has been installed in that area or not. The Dial-up is the 2nd option and its improving quickly and available everywhere. Suffice to say that the internet price in Saudi is so affordable and inexpensive compared to many other countries.

Many wi-fi and hot spots are found in coffee shops and hotels but not in housing. My recommendation is to buy a wi-fi router (not more than $30), install it in your place, and enjoy a wireless connection.

WIFI is not available in Saudi Arabia, but hotel, business, large mall  national army hospitals , and large health care  the provide DSL, and by phone service, or  you can go to Internet cafes

......hmmm.....I would say 90-95% of people living in major cities and town have access to the internet thru DSL and Dial-up via Saudi telecom company. DSL connection needs separate DSL modem (can be wireless also) to connect thru internet tru local landline while Dial-up need not anymore. You can also use your mobile phones or PDA in connecting thru internet using prepaid sim card thru Al-Jawal or Mobily service provider by subscribing to their monthly plans. Wireless connection (Wi-fi) are only available to some shops with secure password and not available anywhere. Only few hotspots can be found in Saudi arabia and mostly it is only available in major cities where many establishments are located.....

well we have a wireless system in our home set up. so we can use our laptops in any room..

there are some cafe's in the malls with wireless and hotels also..

and funny enough, my brother claims he drives around town and finds hotspots where he parks his car and does his internet...

there is also satelite internet here in Saudi.. Orbit gives this service..
