I want to start a no-kill animal shelter in a few years and I don't want to put animals down because "lack of space" because I think that is not a reason to put down an animal at all. That's like saying your mom will put you down because shes having more kids and cant keep you in the house. So I want to make it where a certain amount of animals are allowed in the shelter each month. How many pets should be allowed in each month? And what should I do if even a few pets are adopted by the next month? Answers are very appreciated!

  1. the more animals you have, you need more room, staff, and money

  2. The number of animals allowed would depend on the following criteria.

A shelter is more than just a roof & walls. There has to be taken into consideration the amount of on-hand funds for feed, necessary office equipment (A huge cost), ample amount of property which typically would be at least one acre for structures and parking, certification from the state to house and care for animals, licenses, staff.. I think you get the picture now.

Shelters are always asking for public donations to assist them in their operations and I feel your efforts and monies would be better spent supporting a existing shelter with a monthly donation of say just $20.00 which will go a long way when it comes to saving animals lives.
