How many pieces of luggage should I bring on a cruise?

I'm going on a cruise in a few weeks and I have a pretty good idea of what I'm going to bring, just not how many suitcases I should take or even if there is a limit to how many you can bring. I've heard that there isn't much storage in the rooms. Any tips on the number? Thanks.

  1. think about the airline regulations first.  most of the time you are casual on the cruise.  most people bring way too much!!  good pair of walking comfortable shoes is a must.  what are your excursions??  if you have formal dinner, you'll need attire.  check with your cruise line.  most all have a Q&A section.

  2. not that much. i went on a 7 day cruise and brought 2 big suitcases and a carry on and i had way too much clothes. half the stuff i didnt even wear. carry 1 big suitcase and a carry on. i brought too many shoes with me. but most of the time all youre wearing is flip flops.

  3. My wife and I did a 7-night cruise in March and we took one large suitcase each, plus one garment suitcase to put our formal clothes and stuff in, plus a carry-on that was big enough to fit a complete change of clothes for each of us, plus our toiletries.

Try to take things you can wear more than once or outfits that you can mix and match, such as a pair of pants that can go with 2-3 different tops, and stuff like that.

  4. Depending on how many days you go, you can probably just bring as much as you need.  I wouldn't bring more than a suitcase and a carry-on if you are going for a 4-7 days.  If it will be longer, you can probably bring more.  The rooms are very small but you don't spend much time in them at all when you are on a cruise so I wouldn't worry too much.  I would worry more about airline regulations if you have to fly to get to the boat.

  5. well, if you are going on a plane, i would reccomend taking 1 suitcase and 1 carry on because the airlines charge extra for every piece of luggage now. Also, you can't go over 50 punds or they charge you extra. If you are driving a long way, i would say the same thing, except the luggage probably doesn't have to be a certain weight. Also, take a purse or a bag for when you go to shore. When you get your luggage, you take all of it out and put it in a closet and drawers, and then you put your suit case under your bed. Remember, the amount of luggage I said is only for 1 person. It is the same for everybody.

  6. You don't want to have to carry that many bags on and off the ship. A rolley bag and a smaller carry bag or tote is a good number, you can bring the tote around the ship with a towel and such or whatever you might need for the day.

  7. Most cabin sizes on a cruise is not very roomy. I would say no more than 4 luggages. I would suggest maybe 1-2 bags and 1 carry on. From my Norwegian GEM cruise experience last 3 months, our room consisted of safe, closet, mini bar, drawers, standard small walk in shower, sink, toilet, bed (you can choose between big whole bed or 2 individual beds, flat screen tv, table, chairs, balcony.

My Cruise was very relaxing and wonderful. They had the best theatre that had nightly and daily shows. Wonderful shops. Tons of luxary dining experiences. Gaming arcade for kids. Kid lounges.

    Enjoy your cruise trip :]

Hope this helps a lot :]

  8. depending on the length of cruise. we went on 7 day. we(husband & i) took 4-two large and 2 small ones, also two bags with our bathroom items. That was more than enough for us.

  9. The quick answer is two pieces of luggage and a carry-on is about it.  I have been on about 20 cruises and here's what I suggest based on my experiences.

First, if you are flying to the port city, you will be limited by the airline to two pieces of luggage plus a carry-on bag.  The cruise lines do not really have a baggage limit but remind you of the airline requirements.

When you get to your cabin there are only two places for your luggage, the small closet in your cabin or under the bed.  If you put your luggage in the closet there will not be room for clothes; its that small.  So,

    - Its best to pack using soft-sided luggage because with space limited in your cabin it fits under the beds better if its not hard sided luggage.  You can easily get two 28 inch bags under each bed in your cabin.

    - Pack using the vacuum clothing bags (about $20 for 3 at Target) so that you can get more in your bag AND so that if the TSA at the airport opens your bag they can see what's inside without rummaging through your things.

-Take a small carry-on bag for the last night of the cruise. On the last evening you will be required to put your luggage outside your cabin by about 2:00 AM so that they can start taking it down to the lower deck for offloading the next morning. So you will need a small bag for your toiletries and your clothes that you sleep in.  If you plan to get into the pools or hot tub as soon as you get on ship (they will be open), bring those clothes in your carry on bag; you other luggage may not get to your cabin until much later in the afternoon.

    - Take a small bottle of hand sanitizer and/or hand-wipes. There are generally sanitizer dispensers at the entrances of restaurants, the buffets and dining room, but some times the are not there or not working. The sanitizer helps prevent the spread of the Norwalk Virus that sometimes occur on cruise ships.

    - Take a can of air freshener for your cabin bathroom. The bathrooms do not have exhaust fans.

    - Take a few zip lock bags of various sizes; they always come in handy.

    - Take some one dollar bills (also maybe a few $5's) for tipping the porters in the airport, at the pier (they do not work for the ship), and they will come in handy in port stops for buying small items in the markets and at vendor stands; especially bartering places.
