How many planes are flying at any given moment??

Whats really amazing is how many are over the Atlantic at one time. The tracks are almost always full, and getting slots to get across can be rough depending on the time of day.

FlightAware only gives you flights filed under IFR guidelines.

There's lots of planes in flight, under VFR rules (general aircraft).  Seeing as there are about 600,000 pilots (In the U.S., according to AOPA), I'd say there were lots of flights at any given moment.
