Landing is the hard part.

Quite a few.  This is why the Navy does extensive testing before you can become a pilot.  It prevents putzes from flying expensive jets.  McCain didn't have to pass it or get high grades at Annapolis to become a pilot because his father and grandfather were admirals.  

Crashing and getting shot down because you are a poor aviator don't qualify you to be a hero and McCain bringing it up constantly doesn't erase all the other bad choices he has made in his political career and personal life.
