  1. There are many different types of synovioal joints, if you thinking about the shoulder then it has many planes where as the hand/wrist has 2 and the knee has only one although it seams it moves sideways it only has one plane.


  2. The planes of movement are determined more by the shape and function of the joint, rather than if it is synovial.  The synovial fluid is important for movement but does not define the way the joint will move.  When determining the planes of movement, consider whether the joint is fixed, hinge, ball-in-socket, etc.
