We grew up with the knowledge of nine planets in the solar system namely Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. The terrestial planets are Jupiter and Saturn which are gas giants composed of hydrogen and helium while the inner solar systems are Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars, the Ice giants which contain elements heavier than hydrogen and helium and Pluto is a dwarf planet. The Pluto is no longer considered as a planet but as a large member of the Kuiper Belt- a collection of icy bodies on the outer fringes of the solar system. It was demoted in 2006 by a body of Scientists (International Astronomical Union) because it hasn't met the criteria which is clearing the neighborhood around its orbit and it is now known as a dwarf planet that also has Ceres, Makemake, Eris and Haumea. In total, we have eight planets in the solar system.
