I'm on a highschool volleyball team, so you can trust my answer. It really depends on what type of volleybal that you are playing.

Indoor volleyball has 6 people on the court at one time, a middle blocker, Ds Libero, outside hitter, setter, opposite, and forward.

However, a good guy friend of mine plays beach volleyball, which is usually played with two people on the court.

But if you're asking how many people are on the actual team, it really depends on the coach. My team has eleven girls on it while varsity has like eight. It's in the coach's power to choose the best players to put on the court and then have a few backups in case one gets hurt or can't make a game.
