Five ports.  supply port in, normally in bottom of valve and four ports out.usually placed at 12 o'clock,3 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock. these type of valves are used in both hydraulic and fuel delivery.

If the fitting...in this case a directional valve...can direct one of four ways....it has four ports.

one in, three out or the reverse if desired...three possible sources to one out.
