EG: If I have a table that moves forward and back, and the front legs tilt the front of the table up and down, and the rear legs tilt the rear of the table up and down, is that 3 axis or still 2?

Not home work, just can't find an answer.

  1. Off the cuff I'd say there are 3 spatial co-ordinate axes, one time axis and three axes of spin, giving seven.

  2. As far as we know, there are only 3 spacial axis, well, maybe 4 if you count time as an axis. String theory proposes there are upwards of 11, but no-one has a clue how to envision them.

  3. Well forward and back (toward/away from you) and up/down are only 2 dimensions (axes). In order for the table to move in 3 dimensions in would have to move side-side. Think of side-side as X, up/down as Y and toward/away as Z.
