  1. i cant belive it would be tomany

    i think its 3

i also dont know where you could find out

id still say 3 if it helps

  2. murdered??

none of course, trains are non-human mechanical devices, only people can murder other people

Lets look at your question from another viewpoint.

Per passenger mile, train travel is far safer then travel by automobile, so if  you took all the people traveling by train and put them on the highways, more of them would die, so perhpas the question could be re-worded to "how many lives are saved each year by trains?"

  3. Murdered???? None. Murder would imply intention, a machine is incapable of murdering anyone since it is an inanimate object.

In 2001 there were 548 railroad fatalities. Or 548 were killed by trains.

  4. Trains don't even kill people - it's usually the driver that ignored the signals and tried to outrun the train.  Therefore it's the driver of the vehicle that killed people, not the train.

  5. murdered (=killed intentionally): none

  6. None.

Trains don't go looking for people.  It is only the foolish who place themselves in harm's way that become a part of the following statistic:  about every 18 minutes, someone will dies due to a train verses (pedestrian, motorist, daredevil, etc.) accident.

And, believe it or not, the statistics are about to pass the death toll engineered by way of drunken drivers.  Here, the toll is every 15 minutes.

I cannot ever recall making any road trip where at least one person didn't go around a gate, run in front of the train, play "chicken," etc.

So trains aren't murderers.  But, they have no qualms about killing you if you get in their way.  Of course, if really unlucky, you survive, minus arms and legs, one or all.

  7. People don't kill people. Trains kill people. 500 pedestrians a year...

  8. Murder is a conscious act performed by a person. Trains aren't capable of committing murder. They can run over people if they are standing on the track but that isn't considered "Murder".

  9. Uh, an inanimate object can't murder people. Only humans can murder other humans.

Your question should have read "how many people are killed by trains each year:

  10. Zero people are murdered by trains.  Many people are killed by trains, but only people can murder other people.  A train is an 'inanimate object' and an inanimate object can not commit murder.  The train engineer may commit murder when driving his train, but as far as I know that has never happened.  But I can tell you quite truthfully that ZERO people are murdered by trains each year.  I don't know how many are killed by trains, but you can do a search ... trains, death of passengers, death of people on  tracks.

  11. None are ever murdered by train. Murder is premeditated killing, and I can't imagine a much more unwieldly weapon that a train engine.

Although I too quibbled with his terminology, I think most people are getting off the track here -- pun intended -- by interpreting this as a "do objects kill people?" query. It isn't. If you will note carefully, he says "how many people are murdered BY trains". BY trains. ...Not, as so many of you repeated and then answered erroneously "how many trains murder people?" He never asked that or said that. He asked how many people are murdered with a train as the principle weapon used. I contend the answer is none. But a mystery writer could probably invent something interesting from the concept.

  12. I dont know but I use to live behind some train tracks and while we were there for about 5 years 2 people died.

  13. About as many as are murdered by coconuts falling from coconut trees :)

  14. Its called population control.

  15. 21 ppl a year most are on there own accord thats in the uk not sure about other parts of the world

  16. It's a real problem.

You can usually spot the bad trains - they're the ones smoking out the back of the train yards.

From there it's only a very small slip and they're off the rails...

  17. Just zero. Read the penal code.

  18. Murder is generally distinguished from other forms of homicide by the elements of malice aforethought and the lack of lawful justification.  I doubt that there's a law saying that trains aren't allowed to do it; nor do they think about it beforehand.

  19. Murder is a crime defined in the laws of each country.  Since the train does not have free will and no ability to have malice aforethought, I doubt it can be called murder.

I call people on railroad (railway) tracks stupid, possibly deserving of whatever befalls them.  One wouldn't think of strolling down a freeway, would one?

Would you walk into a steel mill, quarry, or mine?  Why do people think it is OK to invade a company's dangerous workspace simply because it travails the countryside?

  20. it is really suicide that is the classification by t he medical examiner

  21. Trains murder the same exact number of people each year as guns do, none.

  22. I didn't know trains were capable of murder... maybe I just learned something.

  23. murdered?

    trains don't murder.. they kill..

    weird question.

  24. Objects cannot commit murder.

Are you asking how many people are killed in train-related traffic  accidents?

  25. wow...Thomas the tank engine is probablt plotting a mass murder spree as I type this. Beware...I bet the numbre is in the thousands.

  26. None.  Murder would constitute the train deliberately trying to kill someone.

There are thousands though that commit suicide by gettting in front of moving trains.

I've seen a lot of engineers sit and cry because some jerk decided that a train was a good way to die or because they were too stupid to stop at the gates.  But, have never ever seen one of my brothers or sisters on the railroad "murder" anyone.

  27. None. Trains don't kill people, stupid people who get in the way of trains get killed. Trains run on rails, they can't go anywhere else, so logically...it's the idiots fault who gets hit. Stay off the track, you won't die. Simple.

    - The Gremlin Guy -

  28. It most be a serial killer this train.

  29. do you mean killed by trains. I am pretty sure trains dont TRY to kill people....
