  1. my little boy has just turned 2 and he doesnt talk much cos his sisters talk for him! he says about 20 words, when he can be bothered!

  2. my youngest just turned 2 at the end of April and he says many words, not many are comprehendable to untrained ears, but i've learned to decipher them lol...i love hearing him say "spongebob squarepants" and "please, thank you, more, love you, peace out, see you later and endless others.  now, like i said, not everyone understands him, but he knows he's saying the right word!!!! his favorite right now is "motorcycle"....anyways, to actually answer your questions, i'd say between 70-100 words that are in the dictionary

  3. hi every child is different so don't compare my son didn't say mum and dad until he was 16 months but now he nearly 2 and he says about 6 words clearly but he is trying to say others but like i say don't worry your child may be faster at doing something else.

  4. my 14 month old can say Hi, Bye, night-night, dog, woof, yuck, diaper, mama, dada, cookie, banana, no, yeah, wow, uh-oh, sit, down, eat, done, blue, and he knows some of  the letters of the alphabet. Those are the proper words he knows but then he has tons of his own version of words, like Dit-Dit for sister,  oom for a car (instead of vroom). Although Hi is his favorite word. I think he says it about 200 times a day to just about everything from me to the tv to his toys to the dog. He makes me laugh everyday and I can't get enough of him.

  5. my daughter had a vocabulary explosion after her second birthday she is 2 1/2 now and can say triple or more what she could at her birthday.

  6. My daughter is almost 1 and she says: Mommy, Daddy, Baby, tickle-tickle, dog, si (spanish for yes), and also will just speak gibberish for 10 minutes straight.

  7. Mine is 22 months...she can say about 20-25 words.  Lately though, as she closes in on age 2, forget it!  She doesn't stop talking.  She is putting words together (mostly "I want.....") and has a LOT to say :)

  8. My daughter is about to turn 2, and she doesn't really have very many words that are clearly understood. She says Mama, and Dada, and counts 1, 2, 3, (un, too, tee) She says juice (doos) and NO...that one is very clear. and Uh Huh...She also says Bad Dog, when the puppy is doing something he's not supposed to, and Meows at the Cat.  She has an older sister, and for the most part, i believe she doesn't talk as much, because we know what she means by the whining, and  the pointing, lol.  Kids have different learning patterns, and every single one is different.  Kids with older siblings may not talk as soon as we'd like them to, because their siblings do the talking for them.  If you're worried about your child not saying very many words, don't.  They will speak when they are ready.  It's good to read to them, and point at pictures and say the word, so they learn to recognize things by sight.  Also repeat the words when you want them to learn them, like Do you want Down?  Down?  and point down. or Do you want some Milk or Juice? Milk or Juice?  And point to each one as you do that.  Eventually they will start talking and won't shut up! :) It's difficult to go through that stage and watch other people's children just chatting away, when your own is only saying a few things.  :) That's my story anyway:)

  9. run do not walk to your nearest early intervention/birth to 3 program. A 2 year old should be able to say about 5 dozen words, and 18 month old should be able to say 2-3 dozen words. I waited, and I regret it.When my son was 2 years old he said about 10 words and was really frustrated. When I had him tested by a speech therapist he was a full 12 months behind on what they call "expressive speech", but right on target with understanding what was said to him. We taught him some sign language and got him into speech therapy. He has been in speech for almost 5 months and is now saying over 100 spoken words, and knows another 50+ signs. We are aiming for him to know over 250 words by his 3rd birthday.

please feel free to contact me. I have a few things that my speech therapist taught me to pin down a possible problem. I also know a series of oral-motor excersizes and have 10 pages of mini flash cards I use with my son.

  10. It depends to some extent on what you consider "proper" words. At the age of one, my twin boys had about 20 words....but not ones that could all be understood outside of our family. By the age of two they had about 50 words. Again, not all that could be understood by others. And some weren't "real" words at all....they had their own word for "playground" for example. It kind of sounded like "kenya"! They used it EVERY time they passed a park with a playground or even a swingset in someone's back yard. I consider that a proper word. Beyond that, they talked to each other constantly....in their own little language. My partner and I used to SWEAR they were talking about us because they would chatter away to each other, look at us, laugh and then chatter again. It was pretty funny!

Once they got to be about two and a half (a little less maybe) they began to really string words together, pronounce them more clearly and learn new words on a daily basis. Now that they are four....they never stop talking!

  11. My daughter is 19months old and can say about 50-70 words.  I bought flash cards and a ton of baby books and found that the flash cards especially seemed to increase her vocab.  If you show the same pictures and tell the baby repeatedly what its called (multiple times a day even) he/she will soon pick it up.

  12. well it is my little girl when she was that young she had to many to count she would learn them on tv and things like that so it was funny to watch the new words come out of her mouth i would say over 50 easy

  13. my son is 21 months and he soays around 40 words! most easy words but a couple are more difficult eg purple, bubbles,

he also outs 2-3 words together too

  14. My 2 and a half year old talks pretty much like I do, long sentences and such

My 12 month old says nothing!

  15. Our daughters 20 months, she started speaking more at 17 months then stopped for a month or two, but after a recent holiday she has not stopped chatting. She is always saying "mommy" or "daddy" trying to manipulate us into getting what she wants lol.

Other words she says are "Num a nee" = dummy

                                                 "weeelow" = our cat Willow

                                                 "Moc-moc"= Bottle or milk

                                                  "drop eet"= dropped it

                                                  "erd eet"= heard it

                                                  "lor you"=love you

                                                  "poo-poo" & "wee"

This is her language, she will chat your ears off and only those closest to her know what shes on about. But she can only pronounce a few clear proper words so as long as your child is trying to babble then i think you shouldn't worry.

  16. Huge difference between a 1 and a 2 year old.  At 1, my boys had roughly 25 to 50 words.  At 2 they were both using full sentences, knew the alphabet, etc., and had too many words to count.

  17. My 20 months old says a ton... she doesn't stop... I would say close to 100...

All the animals and their sounds - cat, dog, elephant, bird, squirrell, bunny, sheep, ducks, ect

Most of the colors - blue, green, yellow, pink, purple

Descriptive words - Pretty, Yucky, Dirty, Messy

Things around the house - bed, bath, potty, blocks, baby, covers, Barney, remote, door

Other - knock, outside, up, please, thank you, yes, no, stop, go, bye bye, mommy, daddy, brother, grandma, eat, snacks, cup, apple juice, mow, hat, cards, dress, shirt, pants, shoes, socks, purse, diaper, wipes, color,

Their language really explodes between 1 and 2.  Some times I can't get her to be quiet, but it's just so cute listening to her talk.  Every day they learn new words, even when you don't teach it to them.

  18. My little man just turned one on the 15th and no joke, he says about 25 words.  He even says a couple of hard ones like turtle and giraffe.

  19. my lil girl is 2 1/2 and i cant count how many words she says!, i can have a full on conversaton with her..

all children develope at a totally different rate tho. iv got a few friends with kids around the same age as my daughter n some of them say few words some can barely speak and a couple speak alot like my girl... totally depends on the individual..

but if ur worried then go see ur GP, they will put ur mind at rest or do wot needs to be done.

hope everythin turns out good 4 u n ur littlen.

    good luck

  20. Finn is 15 months. He can say quite a bit:

    Yeah

    No

    Mama

    Dada

    Dog

    Door

    Look

    What's that

    What is it

    Where's it gone

    Milk

    Bottle

    Cars

    Birdie

He's doing it very slowly though, and only started recently but he walked quickly (9months) I think they say that one comes before the other usually.

    Ooo I remembered more lol:

    Oh No

    Oh Dear

    Mine (I hate that word)

    Don't want

What doing (meaning what are you doing)

and He tries to say Caleb, which is his brother's name but it comes out more like clrugh lol

  21. My one year old grandson says Bob, so that's good enough for me

  22. As a parent of 2 speech delayed sons ages 1 (19months) and 2 (33 months) I would suggest having your son screened by early childhood intervention.  It is free.  My youngest has 30 words and/or approximations and gets therapy 2X/wk in the home.  What the speech therapists count as words are not what you would call proper.  Ex. my son has a word approximation for monkey, it sounds like maa-eee.  They count that as a word!  So I don't know if your son would qualify or not but it is free and can't hurt.
