  1. All carbon atoms have 6 protons--it's what makes it carbon.

To be electrically neutral, you need 6 electrons to offset the charge.

The MEDIAN carbon atom (most typical, which may have been what you mean by average) is carbon-12, which has 6 neutrons.

The average carbon atom on earth has about 6.01 neutrons, because 1% of carbon atoms have 7 neutrons instead of 6 and a tiny number have 8.

Carbon has 6 protons, 6 electrons, and 6 neutrons.

  3. -----------------proton ---- neutron------ mass number

    carbon 12----- 6------------- 6-------------  12

    carbon 13----- 6------------- 7-------------  13

    carbon 14----- 6------------- 8-------------  14

But an average carbon atom has 6 protons,6 electrons and 6 neutrons.
