I doubt that anyone has an accurate count of how many feral cats there are in Rome. Certainly in the thousands. Rome has cats, Venice has pigeons and Pompeii has dogs. The cats are featured on a lot of tourist souvenirs in Rome. The cat sanctuary takes care of a couple hundred of them http://www.igougo.com/attractions-review... but you'll see the wild cats all over the city - especially in the ancient Roman area. If you walk through the park behind the Colosseum early in the morning, there are a lot of them. You may not want to do this though because there are also a number of people sleeping in the park.
