When you're looking at the time signature, the top number is the number of beats in each measure. The bottom number is what note gets the beat. 4 would fit in each measure since 4 quarter notes fit in a whole note. and a wholenote=4 beats and since it is 4 over 4 it means u could fit 4 in a measure
