I went yesterday to see my 1st grade son singing (I mean screaming), followed by Pre-K and Kindergartners . It was so hot, that all the kids were sweating and totally singing anything but the right tune. LMAO !! Today is my daughter's turn (3rd grade) followed by the 4th and 5th graders. I hope, these will sound better !!

Good morning !

  1. AGONeY

    been to 5 this year!

  2. A lot.

I'm okay as long as none of my kids take up the violin.  A well-played violin is of course a beautiful thing.  A violin played by fourth graders ... well.

  3. I've only been to one concert so far.  The band, orchestra and chorus each did about 5 tunes.  All the songs sounded the same and each had the same tempo.  Then lets not get into instruments that all seem to be out-of-tune!!

  4. Believe it or not, i've been to SEVEN !!

During when i was in primary, at the end of the year Christmas Concert. It was always the little ones out of tuned ><"

  5. the things we do for our kids. i was glad when mine was in 1st grade because his class was always first at the concert and i could always leave after his was done, now i have to sit through 5 grades before i hear his!

  6. LMAO !!  I went through this a month ago with my kid's and grand kid's "Award Day" ...The first graders sang  3 songs or as you so eloquently put it "screamed" !!! As the parents took countless pictures and laughed along with the other parents and teachers!!   It is so sweet to watch these kids grow up!....As they get older their performances do get some what better...So,maybe you it will be a little easier to bare, today!!Have fun, Sweetie!!

  7. At a Christmas Concert a few years ago...

The music teacher had every child sing a solo...

She had them come to the microphone as many of them were so shy they could hardly be heard even with the microphone...

    Then comes my son!

He only thinks he can sing...

    But....

He belts out his part of the song at the top of his lungs...into the microphone and the entire audience jumped!

Not a shy bone in his  body!

    That's my boy!

These are the times you will remember...

    Good Morning Sweetie!

    Peace.

  8. luckily for me ... like a rock group roadie anything below 135 decibels I can't hear.

  9. Yes, they do wear a bit thin sometimes. The main thing is that your child knows you take an interest in their activities. Try just going for a short time and then slip out...?

  10. None so far.

  11. Our elementary school has two "concerts" per year. The Winter and the Spring and I have gotten through both of them. <Insert applause here>

We had the "pleasure" of sitting through the children singing that great Carmen Miranda tune...Cant' remember the name...but I remember that it wasn't a song that 40 non-spanish speaking second graders should have been singing.

Then as the third graders took the stage (my son being one of them) I realized that no matter how hard a music teacher might try, no matter how well meaning the children are....they should not be holding recorders to their mouths and trying to play Au Clair de la Lune....after their version of the classic was finally beaten to death, and lay rotting on the wooden floorboards of the stage, they went into some song in American Sign Language.  ( I LOVE that Mrs Stowe has taught the children ASL....) I think that if a group of uncoordinated children must do a song in ASL, it should be a slow song...so their wee fingers can keep up with their big mouths.  I have a feeling that if there were any hearing impaired in the audience, they were quite confused. For those of us that were able to hear...well, there's always next year's concerts...

  12. Today is my first "agony day" ! LMAO !! You have to agree though: No matter how "out of tune" the little ones always look cute, don't they ?

  13. I haven't been to any yet, but I could care less about it if my sons are having fun doing the thing they love. I will be proud of them for remembering everything they were supposed to remember and even for being on stage! My parents were annoyed and bothered my singing too when I did choirs and the like and didn't show up any of the times (except a few- when they considered me good- took them until 11th grade>.<) and it really hurt. So get over it. Please for the sake of your child.

They do get better as the children get older. It takes time to train the voice to do what you want it to do. Usually by middle school, things are much better for school choirs. (I can not say the same for middle school bands-- in our school system bands did not start until middle school a bunch of new players is going to be rough.) If your kid loves to sing though, it would not hurt to get him or her private piano and/or voice lessons.

  14. Zero! :) lucky me lol, maybe you should use earplugs next time!

  15. Yeah, I have been to those 'talent' shows.

    Everyone just Oos and Awws!

    = )

  16. LMAO!!!!

    I have many many times.

And I have them all on tape so when they turn 21 I can torture them at their party like they tortured me.WHOHAAAAAAA!!!!!

  17. Wait until they start band, sounded like we were torturing animals. lol. I feel your pain. Try using the program they give you for a fan :-) Did your child have fun? That's all that is important.
