Question:

How many responsible breeders would advertise here?

Just a question, in reference to a question recently deleted. Someone was looking for a rottweiler stud, and appeared to have all the answers. Titled and shown, parents were titled and shown, OFA, hip & elbow dysplasia tests, brucellosis, the whole nine yards. Apparently the studs recommended by this person's mentor were not avaible, so the asker was looking for studs here. There seems to be a spate of questions here where people have the right answers, but do you trust that information is not just parroted back from what they've read--or have they "done their homework"?

So the question is:

How likely is it that a breeder of caliber would search for a dog to be bred with theirs on YA?

  1. the better question is would they go through with the breeding?

I think they are just adding words that someone told them that they needed...

  2. Maybe they weren't looking specifically for a dog to breed their dogs with on here, maybe they were just answering questions and came across it.

  3. About as likely as me winning America's Top Model.

  4. im not a breeder but if i was one no way i would advertise here there are too many people on here that want dogs but dont even understand what it means to have one!!!

  5. Haha, the rottie stud got deleted already?  No surprise.  I highly doubt it was legit, it sounded exactly like someone had looked up breeding questions and copied all the info over.  I don't see how anyone could go to dog shows and not have found other available studs- I mean, how many dogs are typically in a breed ring?  8-10 in a small show, 20+ in a big show?  So if the dog supposedly had 2 wins, that's at least 16-20 other Rottie owners she could have talked to, and I'm sure there would be many other non-winning shows... I dunno, it sounded pretty fishy to me.  I don't think ANY true responsible breeder would want to get any sort of information or suggestions from YA.  I decided not to show/breed my Papillon puppy, but I still want to get another show-prospect later on... and I can promise I won't be asking for breeder referrals on this website!!

To officially answer your question: I think it is not at all likely whatsoever that a good breeder would search for a stud/female on this website.  I think it's even less likely that any of the good breeders on this website would respond to such advertising.

  6. I was answering a question just like that one, when I got "Taking a Breather" over and over again, but I guess it had been deleted by the time I got around to answering.

It seemed like a legit question... to be asked to a mentor, or another breeder of Rotti's, but here??  I just didn't buy it.  Or... maybe they were new and it was a shot in the dark??

  7. I am not a breeder, but i would never in a million years use a stud off here don't get me wrong there are a lot of nice people, but the infomation you get fed to some get rich quick scheme never is what it seems.

  8. Honestly???   None!  There is their breed club and quite franktly if they were at all concerned about their dam they would have this breeding all arranged well before the dam when into heat.

  9. Yup - zip, zippo, none...

I was VERY suspicious of anyone who claimed all of that stuff - if any of it were true, they would have plenty of people talking to them ringside, and a mentor would know years before this that part of the criteria for a candidate for stud would be that the dog was currently being used - what good does it do if the ***** is too old already when the dog becomes of age? theywouldn't stop looking until they found one that made sense - to a good breeder, looking for a stud dog for a ***** is tantamount to shoe shopping - you don't often go home empty-handed.

Nope. the real criterion to start with is that they aren't looking for it on Y!A - nothing else matters.

And geez, most of it sounded so good, except they obviously don't know how a dog show works - two Best of Breeds don't make a championship, on any planet.

This is a very good reminder about how good some people can be  at mimicking what you think is a good example in dogs - if it sounds great, make sure it's in the right place, too.  Otherwise, something is very, very wrong.

  10. Slim to none.

Slim, because of the person you mentioned.

(very) Unfortunately, most of the dog "breading" questions that are asked here are by idiotic BYBs. At least 99.9%.

Sad, but true. The dog's section is chock full of Backyard Greeders.

  11. Slim and none!  People who are showing know "who's whom" in the dog world so the last thing they'd do is come to YA to look for a stud.  That's just plain' old silly.

  12. Unlikely... although I have done a bit of correspondence with someone on here who has bloodlines similar to some of mine. (just happenstance).

  13. I would have to say NO responsible breeder would advertise here.. at all.. ever

  14. No breeder I would ever buy from would even consider asking a bunch of shmucks on here for a stud.

The whole concept just seems silly.  Nobody who has a breed-worthy ***** would even have to.

And what the h**l does "the studs recommended by this person's mentor were not unavailable" mean?  I mean, really.  They have a headache?  They're not in the mood?

  15. Very unlikely - in my mind.

I show my dogs. I participate in breed clubs. It's through those venues that I know people and I've met people who I would ever consider pairing our dogs.

You just don't know enough about people over the internet.
