  1. It is a save situation if the loosing team is within 3 runs in the 9th innning.  Minimum is 1 run, and Maximum is 3 runs ahead.

  2. Agree with Lois.

  3. minimum 1 max 3

  4. Minimum: 1 Run

    Maximum: 3 Runs

You can read about it here:

  5. Minimum is 1

Maximum is 3 OR Coming into the Game ahead by 4 with the tieing run on deck or at the plate

  6. As others have said there is no minimum since all a pitcher has to do is pitch 3 or more effective innings.  In fact on August 22, 2007 Wes Littleton of the Rangers "protected" a 27 run lead and earned a save in the Rangers 30 to 3 victory over Baltimore.

  7. A save is hen the home team is winning in the top of the 9th and if the opposing team takes the lead it is known as a blown save. So there is no set number of runs for a save situation.

  8. Min  1

    Max 3

  9. Minimum 1 run

    Maximum 3 runs.

  10. Minimum - 1

    Maximum - 3

  11. Minimum: 1 run

    Maximum: Infinite (depending on circumstances)

Depending on the situation, the minimum is one, but there is potentially NO maximum!  That's right, a pitcher can possibly enter a game with a 1,000-run lead and still get credited with a save, even if he allows 999 runs.

Rules for saves - pitcher must finish the game on the winning side, cannot be the winning pitcher, must pitch at least 1/3 of an inning, and meet ONE of the following criteria:

    1) Pitcher enters the game with a lead of three runs or fewer, and pitches at least one complete inning.

    2) Pitcher enters the game with the tying run on base, at bat, or on deck, and records at least the final out.

    3) Pitcher throws three innings without relinquishing the lead. Size of lead does not matter.

Of course, you can't get a save for entering the game without a lead, so the minimum is one.  For a three-inning save, it can be an infinite lead.  If a pitcher enters the game with the bases loaded, he can have a five-run lead and get the save (the tying run is on deck).  If a pitcher starts the inning, he must have a three-run lead or fewer.

The save rule is Rule 10.19, link is provided.

  12. For a typical save it is 3 runs or less. However there are some exceptions

-if a pitcher comes in and the tying run is on the deck circle, it is a save situation, so this could be up to a five run lead. (Stupidest rule ever, in 41 years of watching baseball I've never seen a guy score from the on deck circle)

    - the official scorer can choose to give out a save in other situations - say for example a starter leaves the game in the first inning, a reliever pitches three innings and his team comes back to take the lead, an another reliever comes in to pitch the final six innings. The official scorer may credit the first reliever with the win, and award a save to the second reliever.

  13. The maxiumum acutally isnt three.

You can still get a save if a pitcher comes into an inning after anotehr pitcher started that inning.

Lets say its the 9th inning, and teh pitcher's team is up by 4 runs. Usually save situations only happen when a team is up by 3 runs or less.   But if the pitcher comes into an inning and theres already one baseruuner on base and the lead is lets say 4 runs, then its still a save situation.  We count that base runner on base as an extra runenr to keep hold of.  So whatever a pitcher enters the last inning of a game, you can subtract the current lead by the number of base runners and if the total is 3 or less, than its a save situation.

Another way to get  a save is if you pitch three innings in relief and close out the game.  Like you finish the game by finishing off the 7th, 8th and 9th inning, then you get the save.

So theoritcally there is no maximum runs needed.

But he minimum is atleast 1.
