  1. I don't know about you, but I drive a Chevy Blazer and my Fiance drives a 1 Ton Duelly....BUT we live in Maine where 4 wheel drive is a must in 3 out of 4 seasons. We live in a rural area and travel through rural towns to get to our destinations of work/school. Also, even thought gas prices are high, I'd rather drive the blazer and feel safe than be driving a little car. So, that's my reasoning.

  2. Hard to say but I think a steady $4 per gallon will separate the "pretenders" from the people who really need them. But I can't see a person who has a high income getting rid of them because the reason for getting them wasn't economy in the first place.

  3. Fuel prices here in the UK are at just over $8 USD and we have more SUVs (especially in the towns) than ever. Here in the UK people DREAM of the good old days about 30years ago when our fuel used to cost as much as you Americans are paying now.

It most definitely is a status thing. I blame landrover for turning 4x4 vehicles in to luxury items rather than a tool to get a job done as they used to be.

Country folk who don't have the high wages that town folk do are finding that they can't afford it though, even though some of us actually need them.

Just to make it worse, our government is constantly talking about raising taxes on 4x4s / SUVs as well as the fuel in order to stop people owning them. As a result we no longer have a 4x4 to use on the estate here as we can't afford it.

And what sucks the most? Our fuel prices are still soaring and going up by the week because of wars initiated by the US and the economical climate of fear created by the US presence in the gulf... EVEN THOUGH the UK itself is a major oil producing nation.

  4. I think most drive them as a status symbol. If that's the case, then the rising price of gas might just be more of a status thing for the wierdos. Otherwise, I read something recently that repo's are at a near all time high. Seems like the rising price of gas is leaving some to just let the banks repo their cars when they can't re-sell them.

  5. hehe, you'd love that wouldn't you?

    you compassionate thing, you.
