How many schools should I apply to?

I will be applying to universities for fall 2009 as a transfer student. I have done the research on what schools have the programs I want and all that, and I shouldn't have a problem getting into any of the schools I am looking at.

How many places should I actually apply to?

  1. 5-7 because some application fees  run towards 100 dollars a pop. Go for the gusto like Yale or my kind of school San Diego  State University. Is a liberal arts school or your black and white business school ?

  2. There is a fee with each application. So money will be a factor. My son applied to 3 and got into 2, leaving him with a choice.

  3. usually about 5 one would be your top or reach school and the last one would be your sure or safety school, and the other schools should be between those two.

  4. First, do thorough financial aid research. Very few schools offer transfers merit aid, so if it's need based aid you're looking at you can get a good sense of what you'll get by looking at typical percent of need met which College Board reports. You eed to be careful because there are colleges that meet 100% of need for freshmen but not for transfers such as Brown.

I would apply widely if you're looking for merit scholarships. Again do the research and find schools known to be generous.

In my experience, transfers are pretty much screwed at all schools other than the few that meet 100% of need for all like most ivies.

  5. hmm, i think you should apply to 5 schools? i am not that sure because i don't have any experience regarding this because i am only a high school student. anyway, i hope i was able to help. good luck:)
