  1. There is no restriction on the number of runs a batsman may take off one ball. Just because a six is often considered a maximum does not make it necessarily so. It is possible that a wild throw from the boundary that tries to prevent the batsmen from taking a third run ends up being 4 overthrows if no one is backing up, thus adding up to 7 runs (on larger grounds, even 8 runs are possible, 4 of them run and 4 overthrows).

In an Aboriginal Australian team that toured England way back in 1867, there was a very fast runner who once took 9 runs (all run) off one ball, although the circumstances under which this happened (repeated misfields, lost balls etc) are not recorded.

But theoretically, the number of runs taken is infinte as any number of events (as described above: repeated misfields, balls lost in grass or pits on the ground, general apathy on the fielders' part) may allow the batsmen to carry on running forever.

  2. As KooKee said as many runs as you like.

To take the long grass scenario a bit further. Guinness book of records has the most runs off a single ball as 17!! Yes that is right 17.

The ball was hit into the outfield and became lost in long grass. So, the batsman kept running, and running. Finally the ball was found!

The funny thing about that match is that team that made the 17 off one ball, went on to win the game by just 1 run!!

How do I know all this? Well, I played for the club that did it! We even have the plaque from Guinness Book Of Records in our trophy cabinet still displayed at the club!

  3. Yaa 9 runs...but u can get more if u consider de fact of  illegal balls dats being bowled n scored runs till de bowler bowls a legal delivery..but wht u asked was in a single ball so its 9 runs as explained above

  4. Infinity amount of runs

The two batsmen could just run forever and ever! Yes this is unlikely to happen, but it is a possibility! Lets say the ball is lost in long grass or the ball is stuck in a tree (yes thats happened before). If this happens the two batsmen could just run forever.

The more likely possibility is 9. (The ball hitting the Keepers helmet, behind the keeper and then rolling away for 4)
