  1. Picture a small room with 2 rows of bunk beds about 10 in each row.

    The showers are open.

The walls are cinder block and I would hardly call the bay a dorm having been to college. The bay is bare-minimum, institutional, military style living.

  2. You have to come over to Australia. Only 4 to a room. lol

  3. It isn't exactly a "dorm" more like a big room with LOTS of people in there.  Rows of beds, with NO privacy.  Shower time isn't exactly a time to relax,.  You jump in, and get as clean as you can in about 30 seconds.

  4. it varies at recruit training in the RAF 12 beds in one room and a shower block for 24 people to use with rows of wash basins,  rows of urinals row of cubicles and rows of shower heads about 6 baths

when i was in Singapore we had double bunks in a H shaped block with 24 per room and ablution block separating each 24 in Borneo 4 to a tent open showers open toilets no hot water no privacy

recruit training In the Australian Air Force 6 to a room and shared toilet showers there are libraries tv rooms a canteen as well as the mess Dining room a base Chapel Church

on most RAAF bases on long term posting you live in Single rooms

you may join self conscious and shy but you get over it very quick

  5.   Dorm !   Cafeteria !  Library !  Student center !   What do you think this is, a collegiate holiday ?

They're called barracks !  The cafeteria is the chow hall !  The shower is the Head !   The library, well go see the Chaplain !

Recruit, you need to get the jargon down before you start asking questions like those you posted.

Single showers are for Senior NCO's and officers, so don't drop the soap !

You will do just fine, once you loose some of your shyness !

  6. there ain't no single showers. you gotta shower with your comrades. however, i don't think you shower with your platoon-the showers would have to be pretty big lol, you'll probably shower with your squad just like 8-10 of you. which is also how many you'd share a dorm with too. Although it can vary. As the girl above me said there could be a LOT of you. I think the showers were in the dorm when my b/f went, but when my friend went they had to walk a few yards. I wouldn't concern yourself with that, trust me you won't care once you get past reception battalion you're going to be challenged physically and mentally, concern yourself with that. You're all in this thing together remember so don't worry ok :)

  7. he he he, ha ha ha, gulp little nervous ha ha ha

  8. In Basic Training, you will live in a "Bay" which is an open room with approximately 20 sets of bunk beds (40 beds total). the bathrooms are called "Latrines" and have about 6-8 shower heads (if you're lucky) with no doors or shower curtains. When I went to basic at fort jackson, i sometimes got to take a single shower and sometimes had to "double up" but there's never any privacy.
